If I was starting a pay per click advertising option on my website, what would be the best way to prevent click fraud?

Thanks in advance for any help

I would say anyone with an advanced plan could beat it, as even google struggles with this. A simple method is allowing only one click per IP address to count per day.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Thanks, I thought of this, but there are many ways to get around it.

I guess then the only way to go further is to actively watch the click statistics, and decide for yourself if something fishy is up...

There are TONS of tricks! IP, REVERSE IP resolution, numeric distribution, cookies, banning due to fraud tracking, visitation length, browser type, owner, referrer, etc....But describing all of them, etc... would be counter productive.

Watching click statistics and "deciding"(aka GUESSING) is doomed to failure. BTW trying to "get around" all the ones I just mentioned from one or a couple systems would be a slow, lengthy, and tedious process. Browser type and cookie, with the IP and maybe owner, would get rid of most of the server based fraud. And if you see lets say 10 attempts from an IP or particular type, that are tainted, you could ban the IP.
