hey everyone... theres a lot of talk on here about membership sites but i havent yet found a thread that talks about member focused scripts rather than affiliate focused scripts. You see I am looking for a membership software that allows members to post their own articles, posts, videos, audios. I have a site in the works that is particularly suited to member submitted content. One that I did find is called memberspeed...it allows for everything I need but I have a slight aversion to ongoing costs and am looking for an outright purchase. Anything under $200 is preferable. Anyone with a script that comes to mind please post back. Thanks p.s... I dont need to have an affiliate program or a shopping cart integration. Also the site will be a free membership site so multiple tiers of access is not necessary |

Isnt it possible to do this with Wordpress with roles? Letting people post things of their own. Also how about a social networking site, script, similar to myspace? You might be able to find one like that by searching google.

Yeah, Wordpress might be the answer. You can set up a WP-based member site using Wishlist Member (or something else, but I love Wishlist) and give members Contributor or Editor roles.

thanks so much .. it looks promising.. but can someone point me to one of these sites i want to see how they look. Thats one of the things that struck me with memberspeed... the sites using their software that they displayed were kind of ugly. lol Im sure they are all not like this. Thanks ps i just was reading about socialsitegenerator and it looks good but i am wanting more of a centralized site with the profiles being a secondary thing. So there would be links to an article and video page with all the user generated content on them. I dont want each members articles to only be in thier profile pages if you know what i mean. I also want a forum. Maybe someone you has used socialsitegenerator can tell me if this is possible? Thanks again |

You should look into Wordpress MU, which allows every user to have their own WP blog on your site where they can add any content they wish. It is as easy to use as single user WP and it is free. The other "membership" scripts are good for protecting private sections of a site(blog), but it sounds like you just need more of a "social" setup. |

thanks so much i will look into all your ideas. yes your right i want more of a "social" sharing site. One where all the member content is put into one section of the site. Not each members content is put into their own section. Thanks again I am going to head on over to those wp wishlist sites to have a look! |

Hey I was looking at those sites and I dont know how i got there but i came accross something called ELGG. It is an open source program and it looks like it would do everything i want. Has anyone here used it or heard of it? Also another program called Pligg. They call it a "Content management system" so it seems good aswell. I looked at the wordpress sites and will most likely go with that if this elgg isnt right for me! Thanks |

We've been using Memberspeed and it really is an awesome way to manage it all. Since you are not looking for all of it's features, you could email them and ask about a "light" version - you never know. |

If you're looking for more WishList Member sites then Google: "Powered by WishList Member" You'll find hundreds of sites and these are just the ones that did not remove the branding which is what we've done. Leon McKee |

You could use WP and Amember. Amember have lifelong support.

Your easiest solution is probably the newest version of Wordpress. It allows you to hide and password protect page and lots more. Lots of useful free plugins as well. Many people have used Wordpress for free and paid membership sites. PW |

I am with Bryan, I would probably use WP with Amember. I am using Amember on a site now and it is very flexible. Links up with clickbank, 1shoppingcart, paypal, etc...very handy. I am not using it with WP but I have seen others doing so in the Amember forum. Alternatively, and perhaps more inline with the social networking aspect you could try Boonex Dolphin which can be configured as a fee based social networking site out of the box. We have used this on another site. It isn't bad but it is large and comprehensive and takes much configuring. There are a number of full fledged Content Management Systems that can do what you want. Joomla has a huge user base and may be a good option. Another option would be Drupal. |
