Where Should I Place My Opt-In Form?

I'm going to be creating an opt-in form on my website.

I'm trying to figure out where to put it, though.

I just created a product review page at my website for the affiliate product that I'm going to be promoting, and I just found out that my product review page shows up on the first page of Google results when you search for [product name] review.

Obviously, I don't want to miss out on presenting the visitors that visit my site via that link exclusively with an opportunity to join my opt-in list.

My concern, however, is that placing an opt-in form on that page might distract them from taking the preferred action of visiting the affiliate's sales page.

Before this issue popped-up, I was just going to place the opt-in form in the right side bar on all blog posts and for the homepage.

My Questions:

1. Is it ok to put the opt-in form on the product review page?

2. Am I too concerned about the opt-in form distracting visitors from the intended action on the product review page?

3. Where all would you suggest that I place the opt-in form on the site?

Any feedback or insight is appreciated. Thanks!

If you are concerned about the optin form distracting people then the best place to put your optin form would be in a popup box when people go to leave the site. That way you are only showing it to people who are about to leave your site anyway.

Here is the popup script I prefer:
Action PopUp: Attention-Grabbing Unblockable PopUps When Your Visitors Leave the Page...

Also, when I hear people say their site has started showing #1 for their chosen keyword, I always have to ask? Have you got Google history cleared and/or turned off. What happens is a lot of people keep searching their keyword and site in Google and Google starts showing you personalized results based on that meaning the site will show higher in your search results but remains unchanged to everyone else. So make sure you are logged out of your Google account and have cleared your browser history and cache before checking your ranking.

      Thanks for the feedback.

Would that popup show up when they clicked on the link to the affiliate's site as well? If so, I wouldn't want to have something stop them or slow them down once they decided to proceed to the affiliate's sales page, would I?

Thanks for the Google insight. I cleared everything and logged out, and I'm still on the first page (not #1), so that's definitely a good thing.

in my opinion you should decide in which of both you want to focus, is it either to build your list or you want to make sales....

if you are ranking in google just like what you said, i would suggest that its much better to get your traffic craving for your opt-in form than your affiliate sales.. cause if you think about it, when you make a sale through your affiliaye link in your blog its only one time, while having them opt-in your list you can contact them anytime you want, which may result in more sales in the future..

of course there are a lot of variables to consider, but having people slowly fill your list is a much more suitable decision in the long run...

dont waste the opportunity that you have stumble upon...

    good luck my friend..

My immediate focus is to make sales.

My primary reason for wanting to build the list is to communicate with, and develop relationships with my readers, in the event that they might want to purchase the affiliate product some time down the line, if not today.

I also want to build relationships with them to just share insights, tips, and my thoughts from time to time.

But again, my higher priority is making sales, so that I can start developing some residual income from this website.

As you said, it appears to be a lot of things to consider here.

Why not capture you leads and then send them to the review site? For those who find your site using Google offer a free guide at the end of the review by opting in here. Give them a link that takes them to your sq page. Also Will's suggestion of an exit pop-up is excellent.

I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to here. Might you be so kind as to explain in a little more detail how something like that might work?

I currently have hyperlinks at the end of each blog post that take the reader to the review page at my site.

Are you suggesting that a pop-up come up or something when they click on that link for them to opt-in, prior to them being passed to the review page?

How would I go about determining who got to the product review page via Google, and who might've gotten to it by clicking the link at the end of the blog posts?

This is harder than I thought. There's so much to consider

I would place the optin form right under the main "buy now" call-to-action (have open in a new window) and explain that you will provide a bonus (something good) for those who buy through your links - tell them they that must optin to receive the bonus.

Then on the welcome page provide the info they need to collect their bonus. (they will need to send an email to this address & provide receipt, - subject "bonus") something like that.

This will give a list of "buyers" right off the bat. And won't intrude on any direct buyers - and may induce a buyer on the fence to actually buy.

I don't have a "buy now" call-to-action, my only call-to-action is for them to check out my review, and then once they're there, my only other product-related call-to-action is for them to visit the affiliate's sales page.

Actually, after thinking about it, I could still use that strategy, on the call to action that sends them to the affiliate's salespage, but I'm wondering if doing something like that would work well with the way I have it currently set up.

What I'm saying, is that having an offer for a free bonus right next to the "check out the product page" link on my product review page seems like it negates the "honest third party" approach created by having a product review page to begin-with.

I'm new to doing this, so I'm just stating my opinion, I'm not trying to say I'm right and you're wrong, by any means.

I would do a lightbox pop upfirst thing when they got on the site. So that you can resell them your product and other products.

In this case I would consider a floating pop up over an opt in form. This way you have a last chance to capture your readers as they are about to leave your site. This will then give you the opportunity to market to them further or to send them more great content and then hopefully eventually you could turn them into buyers.
