Story for Kindle - Pixie and the Tiger

Hi Chaps,

I have been given an assignment by a pal of mine who thinks I know what to do, as I work in IT etc., but in reality can't always remember where I am when I wake in the morning. He has written several books for children (his own) and would like to try and publish them. They are approximately 2,000 words long and having read one of them, found it to be very charming and perhaps worth a shot. In a nutshell, the story involves the meeting of a young girl (Pixie) with a young tiger (Tiger) in the jungle. They become friends and it transpires their respective parents have been captured and put to work by some bad people. They then attempt to rescue them and there is a magic element to this, although the young tiger is pretty fierce on his own (I was scared!). The only things missing from this little book, apart from a few grammatical errors are some nice graphics. I have looked at clipart stuff and on this forum for suggestions, but cannot find anything to consistently match. I think to publish on Kindle, it just needs some nice black and white images along these lines. Pixie would be of Eurasian appearance and just some jungle background would be needed. If any of this rings a bell with any of you, it would be very helpful. Thanks.

Dan

The images are better in color, at least that is what Amazon says, if I´m right - read it somewhere.

Said that.. what I would recommend you is to go to devian art, find something in the line you need and contact the artist.

you might get the permission to use the images for a reasonable price.

Agreed that color images work better, especially for Kindle. You might try Fiverr as there are some good artists on there that would create something original. Usually color costs an extra gig, so $10, but that's not too bad. I've outsourced graphics on oDesk too and got someone to do 10 drawings for $50, so thought that was a great deal.

You might want to check Fotalia.com, too. I did a search and filtered for Illustrations and Vectors and found some great images. Also did a search for "pixie" and found some good images, too. I would at least go with a S image, maybe even M just so you get the right size.

Thanks a lot for the website Boom. Yes, looks great. I will have a good look through the images and register, if they meet the requirements. Pixie will be happy if she gets into print

You can browse for public domain images on the web or do the above mentioned strategies to acquire a few good images. And of course, you can always try and find someone who can create the illustrations/images for you. If you're going to sell the books, better have the graphics its better to have your own custom illustrations. Cartoon or whimsical style would work nicely for this story.

Thanks for your input Lezzur. Yes, I agree that custom illustrations would be the best for a self published book. I could actually draw the characters myself, if I had some kind of template to work from. I can copy most things drawing freehand, but cannot produce anything out of my head. I once copied a Renoir, but that's another story.
