Would you start an ecommerce store on a 4 year old blog?

On a subdomain of the blog. Do you think it would complement or compromise the blog? The blog itself gets decent amount of traffic (few thousand daily uniques).

The other option would be to have it on a different domain, so it would be seen as a separate site.

I want my ecommerce stores on their own domains. Having it on the subdomain of your existing blog would not compromise your blog though.

I want to benefit from my main domain in terms of domain age and authority. With that in mind, would you go with subdomain or subfolder?

      For example subdomain

      store/site.com

a product page might be store/site.com/ProductA

      subfolder

      site.com/store

and then a product page might be
      site.com/store/productA

I prefer subdomains to folders, personally like store.domain.com

  • Having a subdomain wouldn't compromise the blog. I'd suggest doing so, as you can use your daily traffic to your advantage.

Why not? That would be a sure hit for your ecommerce store, since your already have unique traffic on your blog.

Since my site is run on Wordpress, and I can Woo Commerce plugin to create store on existing domain without overwriting the blog, do you think it will be better to actually create the store on the main domain (not subdomain) itself? I think think this may may benefit search ranking for products in the store as the domain has some age and pretty good backlinks.
