Can you evaluate my new website?

I have made a new website about my hometown and its products.
Could you evaluate it in terms of design ( color, size, header, slider etc...), please?

The layout I don't mind. The colours are pretty awful IMO. The worst thing is your logo. Looks like a 12 year old made it in Photoshop (no offense). I think if you can get your logo sorted out, it could be a very attractive site. Well done.

Since confined to life picked up on the logo and the colour which may need a looking at I thought I would add this.

      1) I cant read it! it seems all foreign (Enough joking)
      2) The font, make it a clean font, veranda is a good font and easy to read.
      3) Font size should be able 11-12 if it isn't already.
      4) Making sure that all of your onsite SEO is in order, Description being one, keywords being another.
      5) When I click into some posts there is a useless button at the top of the content section.
      6) Wrap the text around the picture.
      7) Centre the youtube video in the side bar instead of indenting it to the right.
      8) You have centred font and font to the right in your articles, continuity is your friend, keep it left.
      9) If you haven't got an about us section, simple don't have it, "Coming soon" is a pointless post, it wastes my time and others, delete it. (Goes for all links at the top)
      10) in the Cakiraga Mansion post the first picture which is under the featured image needs to be moved, it looks horrible where it is.

      That'll do for now.

  • Perhaps if you would change the logo, it will look sexy. Plus, avoid using Comic Sans (or any comic/groovy/cartoonish) in making a community-oriented website. Also use a smaller font in the navigation bar. Adjusting the color motif wouldn't go amiss as well, but don't overdo it. Raising up the sidebar (categories) will improve it. And finally, if you could find a soothing background (light background that is pleasing to the eyes) that will go along with it, it will definitely look awesome.

Also, how about making an English page?

        Hi,

I really like the website. As you mentioned this is for products in your local area and this site suits these needs very well. As such I don't believe a translation is required, but if you want to aim at a wider public then yes maybe consider translating.

The wrting underneath your logo (Birgi Pazari) could be improved.

I think ... that "Yakında..." means something like "Soon or Coming up" -> I would remove these pages for now as that doesn't look professional and surprise your readers with these things when they have been completed under a "New" section

But otherwise smooth navigation which is important to me

        Thomas

Google Translate has inaccuracies though. You might want to have a separate English page. But it all depends on your target viewers, in my opinion. Great idea though, using Google Translate will definitely speed up the "translation" process, but like everything else, it has its pros and cons.

Nice one, here my own thought: I felt the page looks old with a blend of gray and dark green in the logo.
Layout is good. One more about the font. Just an old fashioned feel.

Thanks for your feedbacks. I really appreciate them.
I didn't know the logo looked that bad. It was my first photoshop experience and it took me a long time to complete it. I was proud of myself when it was finally over.
Maybe I should hire someone to design a better one.
What about the image on the left of the logo?
Does it look nice or should I remove it?
As for English translation, I don't think it's neccessary at this point as I will be targetting the people in my country only.

Definitely hire someone to re-do the logo for you. Unfortunately it does let the site down slightly - I know it was your own work, and good for you for doing it yourself, but you should change it/re-design it.

The site layout is nice other than that. Good Job!

      I like the slider.

I think the image on the left could be ok, if the logo was right!

You´ve got a point there. I did think the same and didn´t mention it.

I wouldn't call the design ugly, but if you plan on profiting from that site you better make it look more "commercially" appealing. Just saying
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[7488922].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author zonkow
I haven't monetized the site fully yet but I have a category on the navigation bar called "urunlerimiz" which means "our products". Also all the posts displayed on the homepage are from that category

Great start! A few changes I would make are as follows:

-Change the font on the page overall
-Get a new header graphic that better represents what your site is all about and make sure it's something that looks more professional and has more color.
-When choosing your colors, veer away from drab, unappealing colors.
-Add a site map to the bottom footer of the site
-It would be worth your investment to seek out a talented graphic designer to work with you on a logo or any other graphics you may need.
-As another poster mentioned, consider adding an English version of the site or a simple widget that connects to Google Translate.

As I said before, you're off to a great start and I wish you all the best in everything that you do!

I think you need to improve the logo or make a new one, gray and green colors are awful to me...then make an English version of the site.

The template of the website looks good. But there are several things, The website is not in english so its hard to tell if you have optimized it for profitable keywords, also there is no indication you are collecting names and emails of visitors to your website. You might want to consider placing an autoresponder on your website offering a free report on interesting places to visit in your home town, restaurants, cinemas or shows on offer, in return you get the names and emails for future promotions. The money is truly in the list. Also there does not seem to be any call to action, are you selling meals on the site, recipes??? What is the exact purpose of having the site up? You may need to ask yourself these questions and find answers.

Thanks for your feedback samspade. The site isn't 100% ready and I haven't started monetizing it yet. I will do all your advices once it's ready. At this point I want to know whether or not it's ok in terms of design.

Unfortunately I do not think it is much better than it was. I would suggest out-sourcing it.

Either that or make it very simple. It it letting the site down IMO.

If you aren't very good at making composite graphic headers then why not do what I do. I'm rubbish at graphics, so I rarely even try to put clever things together.

Find a nice photo of a building or of your main street and then cut a strip out of it to form the header. It should look much nicer and simpler and more natural.

Or try what I currently have on our village website (which I change regularly) - no header, but a background picture. (muchmarcle.net)
