Measuring Article Readership

So it is one thing to see in your stats that an article was visited, but another thing entirely to see if someone really read it. Is there anything you have implemented to find out that valuable information?

Track each article's resulting clicks from the resource box to your website. This link may be helpful.

Sorry, but in my case, these articles are already on my site. I rarely write articles to be posted somewhere else. I do have other internal links in the article and I might consider setting up a funnel for a couple of them to follow the traffic more closely.

Familiar with scroll tracking? I first saw this about 4 or 5 years ago for sales letters. It's usually JS that shows you how far down the page a person scrolled. Of course there's no way of knowing if that person actually read anything.

You can Google it to find other scripts. But here's something I found that is free, and you can see it in action if you want.

The only way to tell for sure that someone read an article on your site would be to test them on it. Good luck with that one.

Otherwise, the best you can do is test physical actions like scroll tracking or clicking links. Of these, clicking the links you want them to click is the most important action.

That said, I'd add the links you mentioned and see if anyone clicks them. After all, even if they are reading intently, if they don't take any further action it's like they didn't read at all, right?

It would be nice to see which articles you write are read the most. I find the title plays a big role. But do they read every word or not? That is much more difficult to figure out.
