HI everybody! I have a card game blog. I know a lot of people ask questions about the card games that I cover on my blog. Is Yahoo Answers a good place to help build traffic and get followers? Has anyone tried this tacit?

Yahoo Answer is very limited for promotion, they easily ban users especially when you use your URL most of the time.

Anyway, don't put your egg in one basket.

I've driven traffic via YA. Not a ton, but enough to make it worth my while. Just make sure you're leaving GOOD replies and not blasting your link everywhere. But, even then, it's pretty easy to get banned.

Have you considered forum posting instead?

I'd have to agree with the others above. I've been banned from yahoo answers before for being overly promotional. Just make sure you are submitting substantial answers.

And, treat Yahoo Answers like Reddit. For every link you leave back to your own blog or site, leave 9 to other useful sites. Build your reputation on Yahoo Answers and you're not likely to get banned.

You should not post links like spamming. Post suitable links at questions demand and that will really help you.

You should not post "links like spamming" in the forums too, especially in the signatures.

I also agree with you. Only 2-3 reports and you are banned without any prior notification. Forum posting is far more better option than Yahoo answers.
Still YA can be a good source of targeted traffic. But you should never rely on it.

Yes, It does. Yahoo Answer has potential to drive a good amount of traffic to your site (if done properly).
You just need to contribute there meaningfully and put your link only when necessary

Yahoo Answers is one of the best place to get traffic as long as you limit promoting your URL. There are a lot of people who search for answers to questions and Google often refers them to Yahoo Answers. You can go to YA and answer all the question that you find that is related to your topic and provide information but as per the above, do not go overboard with promoting your link.

I've used Yahoo Answers quite a bit for a wide range of different sites. Good linkbuilding and promotional opportunities. Whether or not there are questions for you to answer though, is going to depend upon your niche. Certain niches, such as health and weight loss, are highly monitored and its probably best just left alone because you will just get yourself banned.

    A few tips:

-Buy level 2 (or whatever level allows you to post links, I forget) accounts of of Fiverr. You can find legit ones for as cheap as $1 / account on there. Obviously a few of them will be quickly shut down, but its much better than wasting your time making them yourself.

-Only answer questions that your site has a legitimate answer to. If you have a site about snowboarding, and they ask about learning the basics of snowboarding, link them to the guide on your site. That will help you to get the "Best Answer" and fly under the radar as best as possible.

    -Very rarely link to your site directly. Unless your website directly answers the question that was asked perfectly, link to your site using redirects. I bought a bunch of .info domains and would use install wordpress, and use short URL plugins to link to my money site. So the links I would post would look like;

    snowboardinfo.info/snowboarding-basics/
    snowboarddude.info/best-snowboard-brands/

Stuff like that, and have it redirect to my money site. If you post the same domain too many times, your account will get banned.

Like pretty much anything else (web 2.0 blog sites for example) you can get away with a little promotion so long as you are providing them with some quality content. Answer questions honestly. Drop links only where they apply to the question. Don't be afraid to give long winded answers to get the best answer.

Eventually some of those questions will rank for terms and google and provide decent traffic long term as well.

Yes you can do yahoo answers and you can still get traffic from there
but just like what johnben1444 said, they easily ban the accounts specially when you keep inserting links.
but actually there are many ways where you can promote your business.
Facebook, twitter, pinterest and more, don't depend on one source only!

From my experience yes you can get traffic from YA.

The first time I used YA my account got banned even though I was leaving very informative replies. I think the "Top Contributors" were getting jelly LOL because I was getting A LOT of top answers.

Now, I use it to promote my YouTube videos. The only thing I do differently now is I add a link ONLY to questions that are relevant to the videos. Also, I answer other questions without leaving a link, but, I still give very informative info.

    Quality is everything.

Rewards from Yahoo Answers are limited but working on Y! Answers few hours a week is worth long term. I get few visits from Y! Answers and often are inconsistent, but i am overlooking the rewards as of now as am positive about it in future.

Also, Don't just limit yourself to Yahoo Answers spend time on Quora (one of the best q&a website). I have reap rewards from Quora and hence would recommend you the same.

In doing research it sounds like Yahoo! Answers is a good traffic generator if done correctly. It can turn into good backlinks pointing to your website. I personally have not tried it but have been toying with the idea of heading that route.

I get lots of traffic through other sources but I don't get them to fill our the form for contact information.

RyanLB got the point. If you stay under the radar and not promote so obviously by answering even questions which are not related to your website, you can drive some pretty good traffic from yahoo answers. Not a ton of traffic, of course, but decent amount.

Yes, of course you can do it, specially when you are in the level 2. But you need to be aware of something like don't use same links again and again, same website's link all the time. Be specific about the link which are helpful for the the person who ask the question and also for the persons who are visiting this post.

I don't know what others have experienced but in my opinion YES, it does send you traffic if you do this on regular basis.

But you have to play safe since, whatever you do try to maintain the quality and relevancy strictly otherwise your account can be banned at anytime.

For example, if someone has asked you about Website Designing and if you put an URL of Search engine optimization that will be considered as spam so don't do it.

Yes participating in yahoo answers do help to drive traffic to the website but for that you have to cross certain levels so that you can add link in your answer so that reader can click on the link..Try to give good answers so that reader find it useful and your answer comes out to be the best answer and you gain some points.

I have been using Yahoo answers to bring in traffic to my sites. Number of times my answers were chosen as the top answers - almost on daily basis. I have a Level 2 account. But I am very careful in leaving my links. I leave links that are relevant and that contain the info which a user wants. Of course the links are related to the niche. For example I would leave a link for best gaming laptops only if the question demands it. Also, I carefully choose the questions by clicking the right options.

I don't know how much traffic actually comes, but I am spending about 30 mins or so everyday to answer qs. Somebody has mentioned that Quora is a good site for q&a. Well, I think I am going to try that too...

Yahoo Answers works yes. It's good for laser targetting. I still make a couple of sales here and there from old answers from a year to a few years ago.

The only problem with YA is they've really cracked down hard. It's become a report abuse/flag nazi system over there like Craigslist. So it's a lot more difficult to get your answers to stick.

I've always added good quality answers related to the questions asked with a link in the source without sounding spammy. I've even gotten involved in the community answering questions without leaving a link on some topics and still got banned. So, it works but it's much harder. If you're going to go that route it might be best to outsource it by hiring someone to post answers for you.

In Yahoo answers, there are opportunities to get a lot of targeted traffic but it needs a lot of effort. For instance, if you post an answer to a particular question, you are likely to get maximum 5-10 visitors from the link. After that, the question will become a past and nobody will have a look at it.

I had paid freelancers on odesk to answer 100+ questions on YA to drive traffic to my Kindle ebook page. I got a few sales too. However, after some time, most of the answers were deleted. So, this may not be a permanent traffic strategy. You just might need to keep doing it all the time for getting traffic consistently.

I am pretty sure Yahoo very quickly deletes questions or replies which pastes a link of some sort, at least that is what happens to me.

Therefore I do not think it is of much use. Sometimes you may provide a lot of value in your answer but some tart still decides to report your question

Another thing you can do is create 2 accounts. Use one for asking and the other for answering with. Ask the questions related to your niche and then answer the question with a good answer and then throw your link in there.

Then when the time comes pick yours as best answer.

I've done it myself for a blog and so far after 2 years the accounts are still active and the questions and answers are still up with my link and I'm still getting traffic from those answers.

Networks like Yahoo Voices allow you to post to a personal or business website in your profile.

Users that like your content will naturally veer over to your profile because they're looking for more information.

Same here. I used to get some traffic from it a couple of years ago. But then I got my account banned from posting answers.

I still get a trickle of traffic from Yahoo answers, from a different yahoo account which I used to answer some dog care questions about 3 or 4 years ago, and those posts are on the first page of G0ogle SERP - I think that the fact they are older posts, made them rank well in the SERPs

If you only backlink to your own site, then you are clearly spamming or being promotional and have no real intention of helping out the community. But, if Yahoo sees that you've linked to other really good sites too on more than one occasion, then they can assume you are a regular Yahoo Answers uses, rather than a site owner looking to promote his site.
