What were your biggest mistakes?

Good day Warriors!

So I'm just here to spark a discussion of sorts, because I am rather interested in what is on your minds right now. First off, when you were beginners in the field of Online Marketing as a whole, what were the biggest mistakes that you often do, and what do you do to get over these mistakes?

Personally, my mistake is I often expect. My expectations are often huge, and when it all ends up failing, I get huge disappointments as well, that leads to discouragement and depression to continue in the field of online marketing. Failures by expectation often gave me the demotivation to stop working in a specific marketing strategy. My worst disappointment was with a blog that dates back to 2007. I placed in alot of work in there. And when I climbed down the higest expectation tower, I fell down from a distance. I learned a lesson, and that is NOT, no wait, NEVER expect anything.

    One of the biggest mistakes I was making when I started out was chasing every new money making method and not giving my 100% to it.

    Once I stuck to one method, researched and learnt all about it,implemented it well, I started to profit.

    My biggest mistake is,not to built a list and when I do, I didn't built a relationship with them.Other,I would say, attractive to the next best thing and didn't focus on what suppose I do.

    My biggest mistake when i first started online marketing was truly believing there was a "push one button, make thousands overnight" system. I came to the harsh reality that there is no such thing, and that you must put hard work and sweat equity if I was going to make it in the online world.

    Trying to get something perfect before putting it up for sale. That road leads to nowhere fast.

    Of course you need to have quality in anything that you sell. But quality and perfect are two different things. A product can lack a couple of bells and whistles and still be able to help the people who buy it.

    I signed up with a couple of "Gurus" who basically just kept sending me to join products that they were affiliates for. They bragged about how good these products were, so nearly all of us signed up for them only to find they were not nearly as good as they described.

      They call that one 'magic bullet' syndrome and yes, most beginners go through that. You get wise to it pretty quickly though (hopefully) and you see those people for what they are.

      Someone who is continually sending you to new offers and products is NOT someone who has your best interests at heart. That is someone who has their own interests at heart.

    one of my biggest mistakes was thinking that I could build a full time income by relying on SEO traffic

    Big mistake

    You can make some good money by creating affiliate and niche sites by relying on SEO traffic but by no means should it be what you rely on to generate most of your online income

    These days i just focus on:

    1. creating more value for my subscribers/buyers
    2. creating more value in the market place
    3. continue to build my list

    this is the simple approach that i now use and it's way easier and more profitable than always relying on those clowns over at google to send me traffic so i can generate an income online

      For me it's scattering my energies on too many things.
      IM can be so vast in different topics and areas that I've learned to be picky and to laser focus my attention. Also don't fall into too many rabbit holes, so to speak, with new and promising Products, schemes.

    My biggest mistake was having a lot of earnings coming from squidoo in a niche before I understood everything about it. Getting to lenses locked that had brought in about $50/month from CB in addition to the regualr lens earnings of 50-100 a month was a big hit, but you learn and you go on!

    My biggest mistake was always looking for the next "shiny new toy" and not following through,i would like to think i am now getting better at resisting the temptations now (and there are lots of them in IM).

    My biggest mistake was, I was determined that I'm going to learn internet marketing by myself and with free resources and information available on the internet. I wasn't willing to invest any money in my education and tools. That lasted for years and I wasted lot's of time with no results. Few months back I decided to let someone to teach me internet marketing and I invested in my education. I got a teacher. It was the best decision I ever made. From then on everything changed! You can learn perhaps many things from eBooks and have some success but from my experience the fastest and the best way is to let someone who knows how to guide you through the steps needed to have success with internet marketing.

    My biggest mistake in the beginning was that I was too confident and I did many things without having real knowledge, without making a marketing research or anything. I was sure that I would sell my products because I trusted their value.

    Later I saw that it doesn't matter if your products are really valuable or not. This is not what makes them be purchased by most online users. What matters is first of all if the internet users care about these products, and if you know how to reach your audience.

    You have no way to succeed if you don't know how to market your products, independently of their quality.

    The biggest mistake that I suffer the most from is that I think a lot about an idea, get real excited by it, do some real research, do some major initial work AND then all of a sudden get another idea sticked in my mind and keep repeating the same. In the end, after spending too much time I realise that all I did was just wasted my time and now I own dozens of car-frames but not even a single complete car.

    My advice:
    Thing about a few ideas, do the initial research to decide which one is a better one, and then totally stick to it with no second thoughts :-)

      Oh yes, definitely one of the biggest mistakes people do - they get overly excited at an idea but another idea comes, and another idea, and it kinds of snowballs and you'll end up not accomplishing anything. Nice share, and thanks for giving your advice!
