LOVE STORY Sells 1800 Copies in 19 Days

Wow I am amazed!!

My friends 24 year old daughter loves sloppy romantic mush and decided to try and write a short Novel.

She published a few chapters on Wat Pad and generated over 1 Million reads ... after telling me this I encouraged her to publish the book using Amazons Kindle and Hard Copy deal.

She figured everything out for herself (a complete noob when it comes to online selling) and published the book at the end of November.

Spoke to her mum this morning and made a passing comment, asking how she was getting on.

SHE HAS SOLD APPROXIMATELY 1800 copies already plus about 20 hard copies.

I am beginning to feel a bit of romantic writing may be in order!

The great thing about books is no one knows how good or bad it is until AFTER they have purchased and read it.

Not really true: Kindle readers will soon bury a bad book in bad reviews and no-one will buy it.

Listening to her I think her success has been down to leaking chapters on Wat Pad ... Although she did not do this as for strategic marketing purposes.

She is being asked to write a sequel ... it would be great if she could repeat her success

That's awesome! She should be able to repeat and grow her success if people are asking for more. The more books she has out there, the more people will find her books and the more she will sell!

      Bernard,

She could request story ideas from the buyers?
Make a website, and have an idea contest?
      Thanks

This could be replicated by anybody who can take the time to write up a full romantic story. There's probably a LOT less competition at this time, compared to the writers trying to publish in the hard copy universe. And you don't even have to be original---since there are a zillion love stories out there in print or on screen, just rehash a winning plot formula, and alter/tweak just enough stuff so you don't have to worry about copyright issues.

I think the very key for his/her success is you know what you are doing and you do have passion on it. This way, your readers will find the quality of your work and eventually tell the reader's friends about his/her book.

Tell her congrats too, she must have realised a great talent, which she is putting to great use. It must be satisfying for her as she is doing something that she enjoys, and happens to be making sales from it, and its highly creative way of working.
This sort of thing may not be for everyone, but it goes to show that if you're good at something, then you've got a high chance in succeeding and living a more fulfulling way of life!

How many people out there earning money doing things they don't enjoy just to pay the bills?

Credit to her and I wish the best of Luck too!

Wow. That is just insanse. However, the coming titles by her (if any) will actually give the answer to if she's got talent or just got lucky. But personally I believe there is more probability of her to keep it up in future as well, because she has already earned the trust of +1800 people, and many of them will buy from her in future again.

Initially rotating the wheel is the most difficult part, but when it starts rotating it isnt too difficult to maintain it!

All my best wishes are with her.

It's great hearing about her success. Just the other day, I was reading a forum post where people were claiming it's too late to make money in the Kindle...which was complete nonsense by the way.

There is so much opportunity right now it's staggering.

People are always throwing that statement around when it comes to just about everything. If that were the case, no one would be earning from AdSense anymore, or ClickBank, and a friend of mine wouldn't have sold 104 copies of her ebook in only 18 days this month.

So let's all keep publishing and let the negative minds out in the cold.

Awesome! Now that the snooty "book publishers" are out of the way... a lot of talent is emerging with fresh stuff - not the formulated crap created to just sell books by a team of overpaid hack writers.

Now to keep it going, it's time to set up the biz end (author website) and start collecting leads (emails) for future promotions.

That's just no surprise. Ever since the Twilight revolution, love stories and romantic novels have taken the literary world by storm. Most books that are published these days are either love stories, or non-fiction. The increase in the latter one has appalled me as every monkey has a say in everything these days. Nevertheless, even if you go to goodreads now, and check what's the most read, most reviewed, and the latest releases, you are guaranteed to find more than half to belong in the romance genre. In addition to that, I've also observed that female authors have outnumbered the males by a landslide. The other day I was checking out 20 new releases, 17 of them were works of the feminine hand.

Love stories are a hot niche! Remind me why I revealed this secret so easily.

This is brilliant! Congratulations to her in every way.

Kindle really does allow anybody with (or without) talent to be seen and found by their readers. Romance is, and always has been, hot. So to speak.

    Well done!

I spoke with her this morning and she has sold 98 copies overnight ... WOW!

Most of the buyers are US based ... I am encouraging her to plan a sequel and a third book.

        Hi BernardR,

The reviews on Amazon are interesting. All of the good ones mention that they followed her on wattpad, the other reviews are highly critical.

Best of luck to the girl!

Be consistent, take action, willing to risk, willing to learn from mistake = success.

Do you mind giving us the title. I would love to buy it.

    Thank you!

Aye. Very true. Only one who risks is free to be.

One of the hardest things to believe in often is ourselves.

In fact, we're very often so critical of ourselves that this can often paralyze our action taking.

      Truth is though...

It's only by putting yourself out there, taking the good with the bad that you get to learn from your mistakes and move forward. Which clearly this lass is doing.

I say bloody good on her for trying and jolly good luck to her!

Sure, anyone else trying this, you might not get it perfect first time round. You'll probably read back whatever you've written down and pick holes in it left, right, and centre. Though of course, if you maintain this kind of thinking, you'll never get anything released out there on the marketplace.

Sometimes you just need to go for it. Weather the storm. Ride the wave. Who knows, you may just end up with a little runaway success story on your hands from which you can use this foundation to build better things to come.

If you don't take the risk with your time you'll never know.

Me? I'm up to chapter 4 on a book I've been writing on the quiet. Similar to the Finding Nemo theme.

I've already run the script idea past a top former Hollywood screenwriter who thinks the idea is genius (his words not mine). I guess only time will tell what future success or otherwise is out there on the cards for me.

But if I don't do it, I stand to gain nothing at all.

If I complete the story on the other hand and bring it to market, who knows what doors this could open in the future?

Thank you for sharing such an inspiring tale with us all Bernard. Please do pass on my best wishes to the lass concerned. I do hope she goes on to enjoy extraordinary success.

      Smoking hot,

      Mark Andrews

Wat Pad? Are you referring to this - Wattpad - Discover a World of Unlimited Stories

She just posted something there and it generated a million reads...or did she already have a large following there? That's the first I've heard of this site, but it might be worth checking out.
