| Hi Everyone, I've had a Paypal business account for a number of years now. I've recently been seeing a reference to using the Paypal Sandbox from some marketers. I'm not quite sure of it's function. Can someone please explain what the difference is between Paypal and Paypal Sandbox? Thanks, Sandy |

I only just found out about the sandbox as well. Its a new account where you have to register again, with a different email address to your "real" paypal account, once registered you can play with all the bits and pieces to test out that they work or that you have done it correctly, such as using PayPal IPN. So as the name implies I guess, sandbox, play in it LOL Cheers Sue |

Hi Sandy Paypal Sandbox is a developers site for testing the functions of Paypal - you can set up dummy accounts, email addresses and bank accounts to enable you to test the various functions of Paypal. Generally used by developers/merchants as a test bed - Some scripts (eg RAP) have a facility built in where you can "switch" to Sandbox to carry out tests on the product without having to use a live Paypal account. It acts exactly as Paypal would - only there is no "real money" changing hands. Unless you are using it regularly it can be cumbersome. HTH |

| Thanks for your replies so far, Can someone give me some direction as to how I go about starting this Sandbox account? What I have to do in order to start using it? Do I open a brand new account? Do I use it in conjunction with my live account? I don't understand how it gets started up from Step1. Anybody know what needs to be done to start a Sandbox account? Thanks everybody, Sandy |

Sandy, are you going to develop a payment system? If not, you should not worry about the sandbox at all. If you like to use it though, you have to create a brand new account.

Sandy Mark is correct - unless you are thinking of testing lots of products/systems as a developer, then I wouldn't think Sandbox would be of benefit to you. Obviously I don't know what your intentions are - but I would suggest having a look at the documentation first:- https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?c..._documentation If it is still what you want, then the sign up form is here: https://developer.paypal.com/devscr?cmd=_signup-run This account has no tie-in with any of your Paypal Accounts - and is simply a Test Environment. Hope this helps. |
