Any recommendations for the best ecommerce Wordpress theme? It is for a retail store for a client.

I use a plugin, which is called Cashie Ecommerce plugin.
I believe it works with any theme and it really easy to use.

I use Woo Commerce. They have a lot of different styles to choose from and the Woo Commerce plugin as well as the extensions available handle all of the ecommerce functions and shopping cart functions. Hooks up to most payment gateways seamlessly.

My suggestion is to use the WooCommerce plugin. This is a free plugin that works with a lot of different themes, not surprisingly with most of the WooThemes.

  You can check out themes for all the various eCommerce options (Magento, OpenCart, WordPress, etc) at ThemeSquirrel and read the blog for reviews of those various themes. WooThemes is definitely the leader in WordPress eCommerce space, but if you don't mind being shoehorned, check out Weebly for basic functionality it might just be what you need. If you go with OpenCart, here's a free OpenCart theme.

Thanks guys. WooCommerce sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? It seems to have commercial themes, free themes and also the free plugin as well?

  It does have free woo commerce themes and paid ones. The Woo Commerce plugin is free. There are also a ton of extensions that do a lot of different things and a lot of different payment gateways that you can buy. Very easy to get a store up and running with Woo Commerce.

I also recommend Woo Themes along with the free Woo Commerce plugin. You choose a premium Woo Theme and they add the free plugin to it. You can use the Woo Commerce plugin on any theme but it ROCKS with the Woo Themes.

Both WooCommerce and GetShopped are good for ecommerce websites. I suggest Blanco WordPress theme which integrated with those plugins for your ecommerce site.
