Default Finding a Mentor?

I have been a freelance writer online for over two years, and make a steady full time income with it. However, I have been trying to break into Internet marketing for about six months now. I finally feel comfortable with my level of knowledge, although I won't be making any award winning sites anytime soon.

I was wondering how one would go about finding a mentor. I really just need help when it comes to driving traffic, as I seem to be helplessly bad at it even though I know many of the methods. Also, how much would a mentor cost generally speaking? One last question, how do you know that an individual is indeed qualified to be a mentor? Thanks for any help!

Kathleen

well if you look around mentoring costs alot of money. I think there are places out there starting from $500 to $5000 dollars. They all teach step by step instruction as long as you follow it.
I get calls from IM staff all the time asking me if I want a mentor. I usualy go through the roll but when i'm up front about how much it costs I just say I don't have the money which is usually the case.

This is an interesting question. I don't have an answer for you, but I had a freelance writer who would create a bunch of content for me. As my way of thanking her loyalty, I took her under my wing for a while and coached her to turn her writing into profits for herself.

I did get some benefit because she signed up for some affiliate programs with a second tier, which I earned from, but then again, it was no disadvantage to her since any two tier program pays the affiliate the same regardless if they are in the second tier or not.

I charged her nothing, although that was a very unique situation.

I think it's really about building relationships. I had many writers over the years but she was the only one who I considered serious enough to follow through.

When I used to be a webmaster for people and did consultations, I charged between 2k-3k a month. I was a certified webmaster for Sitesell.com

I no longer do this, but those were my rates anyway when I did.

You should stick to ONE method until you earn a good income from it. So if you know many different methods, but still need help when it comes to driving traffic, then that seems to me that maybe you're too scattered and need to just focus on one of them.

Regards,
Dan

Kathleen, mentoring is a 2 way street.

I turn away more people than I take on.

The main reason is human nature. Most people, in spite of their good
intentions, don't have the discipline to do what it takes. I am speaking
from experience, not theory. I can count the number of people on one
hand who have finished my program with me.

The excuses range from "I don't have the time to do more" to "I've decided
to do other things."

Mentors can run from $100 a day to $1,000 a day depending on who you
get.

How can you tell who is qualified?

Research the person. See what others have to say about him or her. See
if they have any kind of a reputation. Just going to Google and looking
up their name is a great start.

Then, when you contact them, ask for definitive proof of their success.
If they're on the level, they'll have no problem providing you with solid
proof.

But expect to work your tail off if you get somebody worth their salt.

Hi,

I did send you a message in return, and am not sure why you did not receive it. I do not use that email address often as I stated in our phone call so that may be the reason. I will resend the information through my Aol address if you like, but I do understand if you have gone elsewhere as it has been some time. Yes, me and the children have finally managed to recover and I have my full voice back lol. Just send me a PM and let me know.

To everyone else, thank-you for the advice and information. I now have a starting point at least. The main reason that I am looking to make the switch to full time IM when I already have a successful writing service is quite simply because I enjoy it. I can work IM for hours and hours on end and it never gets dull for me. I enjoy the challange, rush, and thrill that it provides. Straight article writing day in and day out 10-12 hours a day on the other hand can get quite tiresome.

I will keep plugging away then. Right now all my efforts are focused on one website. I am trying everything I know to get it up and running, so I will see where that leads in the next month. While I work 10-12 hours a day, I can only devote 4-5 of those hours to IM since I do still have to complete writing work. That means that I will progress a bit slower I suppose. Thank-you all again for the information, the Warrior Forum is a wonderful place full of grand people.

Nonsense!

I saw your site and it looks solid - I think you definitely have it what it takes to generate income with internet marketing right now. Just decide to do it... start selling and expect to make sales.

What are you trying to do? Affiliate Marketing? Set up a landing page somewhat similar to your site but a different headline and graphics. Depending on what Affiliate Networks you belong to you could set up a review page and drive traffic with PPC.

My writing website isn't the site I am focusing on right now, it is just a quick site I threw up to direct interested parties to. I have a niche site that I am focusing on right now. It is monetized with adsense, a few clickbank products, and amazon right now. I plan to add reviews of individual commission junction products as well in the near future once I have solid useful content in place.

I just purchased bookmarking demon today, so I am hoping that that will drastically reduce the hours I have had to spend bookmarking posts lately. Thanks for the encouragement as well!
