Is the squeeze page dead?

I am new to IM and I have always viewed a squeeze page as spam. I have recently been test driving an IM course that is focused on using a squeeze page. What I am asking, is anyone making money with the squeeze page method?

A squeeze page is just another form of lead generation and lead generation is the core of any successful business, online or off.

Fully optimized squeeze pages can be very profitable. If your offering a free quality product maybe software, eBook or anything of value, your list will love you.

Spam is unsolicited mail, so I guess you probably mean scam?

What gives some people the impression of a scam is not the squeeze page itself, but an over hyped, typical and sometimes badly designed page which resembles every other.

Yes - a lot of people are.

May I suggest a slightly different question for you to ask, instead of that so-easily-answered one?

You could ask "Is anyone making more money with the squeeze page method than they could be making by building their lists without squeeze pages instead?". I don't know the answer to that question, and neither do many people, though plenty will have strong opinions. (And perhaps especially squeeze page users, who want to be "right" about what they're doing and "already know" that their method is best!).

The reality (and of this I am sure, and have some proof) is that some marketers who are using squeeze pages successfully could possibly be doing even better by building their lists without them. Some marketers assume (very unwisely indeed!) that "the biggest list" is necessarily going to be the list from which they derive "the biggest income". Personally, I've split-tested this methodically, over 6-month periods, on four occasions, and found the exact opposite to be true, every time. (The reason for that is mostly to do with my traffic demographics, and I don't suggest it's a reason that applies to everyone else, too, but it does apply to some people).

You should learn the strategy of using a squeeze page, it includes many elements you will consider, not just a page.

It includes squeeze page, auto responder account, e-mail series, confirmation page, oto pages, etc.

Your main goal should be to collect e-mail addresses of target visitors, and can promote target offers to them many times. in the future.

To echo what E. Brian said, a squeeze page is just a lead generation tool. Like any tool, it can be used well or badly. Hand the average person a block of wood and a knife, and you get a pile of shavings. Hand the same wood and knife to an artist, and you get back a piece of art. Use the knife with the same skill exhibited by many marketers on their squeeze pages, and you'd end up with a trip to the ER and that person only being able to count to nine with their shoes on.

And, as Alexa pointed out, there are other methods of getting people on your list that may end up generating more profit.

That said, in some markets (like IM/MMO), the traditional squeeze page may be so omnipresent that it exhibits something like "banner blindness." People in the market have seen the same format, often copied directly from seller to seller, that they reach the page and say to themelves "Oh, that again" and hit the back button.

Like banner ads, it doesn't mean the method itself is dead. It just means either finding more fertile ground or doing something creative enough to capture the attention of a jaded prospect pool.

What is it with all the 'this is dead', 'that is outdated' threads?....

What is better a squeeze or just an opt-in box? Test that
and you'll quickly find out just how alive it is.

Yes it still works perfectly indeed

However, the more hyped up the squeeze page it doesn't mean that It's gonna convert.

    You know what?

just try and test yourself and see what happens?

Squeeze pages do work, you just have to use them the right way. People can't feel as if you were just trying to get their information, they need to see value in what you're offering.

Other techniques for capturing leads can be effective as well, but I think the landing pages will be around for a while.

How you are getting traffic is at least as important as how you are capturing leads. My best experience with building a responsive list is with a very simple, low-hype squeeze page that captures sign-ups to a newsletter.

I don't offer a freebie, and my list is a continuity piece. Each follow-up builds on the last one. There is no "promotional" messages meant simply to push some Clickbank product. Every message includes referral links to my CPA networks, my traffic sources, and other resources I actually use every day.

The leads come from guest blog posts that are on the same topic as my newsletter, or from traffic I get through my signature link.

The traffic from guest blog posts is much higher quality.

Squeeze pages work if you have quality traffic and you avoid insulting their intelligence with excessive hype.

In some cases, splash pages are better than squeeze pages depending on your traffic source. For example, advertising on PTC networks and safelists practically require that you are splashing instead of squeezing.
