Twitter Followers. How Many Of Them I Need?

Hello, I've been learning about this very interesting platform Twitter and it looks just great as a tool to take your message to the crowds (commercial or not). But I was just wondering how many followers should be the least amount I should aim to have so I can start to see results promoting some products to this followers?

Hard question. Quality of followers matters. 100k followers would be awesome but not if they never use twitter. I would rather have a few hundred realtors and other potential clients than 100k useless slobs

9 out of 10 people would probably say, ALL I CAN GET. Quality is what you should want for the long haul of building relationships. You will succeed!

I don't think it is based on quantity but quality. What I am saying will be that you may have thousands but how many are actually reading your product offers. With huge amount of followers, people can hardly see your offers since they will also have a huge amount of followers themselves.

For me, I will click on the person and read their offers once awhile. If your followers are having little followers then chance of seeing your promotion will be great. Or if they are doing like me, then you will be getting more viewers for your product promotion.

Quality all the way. It's about the relationship you have with them. If your followers love your stuff they will retweet your stuff and market for you.

    Adpablo,

I don't think you can put a number on this one since you probably have a real mix of followers. I would try to continue building a more targeted following and since I don't know much about Forex other than seeing a ton of marketers promoting it, the larger your following, the better your chances of converting some of your promos.

As with the Forum, Twitter has a real blend of newbies and a wealth of top Professionals in it's membership, so you best be on your A game trying to sell there!

    Hope this helps!

you need as many followers that will pay attention to you.

It is useless to have 10,000 followers that never get on twitter or never reply back.

But, if you have 1000 followers that are captivated by your tweets and wait for your tweets... well, that is a totally different story.

So, I guess my answer would be you need as many followers that will listen to you. Whether that be 10 or 10,000

I will agree with most...you need to build relationships with people if you want to sell to them...unless you are a celebrity type and people are dying to see what you have to say. Another factor you might consider is the niche, as some niches are much easier to sell to than others. You also want to consider what you will do after you've got the sale.

      Hi there!

I think, if you despise SPAM, then don't use Twitter solely for advertising...coz your tweets will be treated as such AND ignored. Nothing gained there then is there?

Put in some content, rave rant and throw tea cups if you want, and the occasional link to a product you want to sell.

      Hope that helps,

very good answers and i think the one thing that stands out is you have to give quality information. the original poster talked right away about promotingstuff - this is the wrong way to look at twitter. Twitter is a social communication tool and as such is about communication and not about commercilism.. Build up followers give good information than offer reviews of products.

For example nicheprof (Ron Caps) is just an amazing powerhouse of information about social marketing. I know if there's something i need i'll find it from him.

So what has he done? he's created a "brand" the go to guy for social marketing. This is what you need to do. When you then recommend something people will listen and trust.

    Actually that's the key:
good infomation + trust = success

Stop with the targeted stuff, gah.

Yes, it's important, but don't be spending every minute of your waking day nitpicking your followers.

The best and fastest way to achieve this is as follows:

      1) Go to someone's twitter profile who is in the same niche and has a similar personality type and writing style (if possible) as you.
      2) Click on the link which shows the amount of people who are following him/her
      3) Click "follow, follow, follow" all the way down, 10 pages a day or so. NO MORE.

This way, you get quantity AND targeted followers.

If you're interested, I'm doing a free online seminar this Wednesday which will explain this whole process of being awesome at Twitter in much more detail. Link is in my sig (below).

      Hope i've helped

Be careful though, "aggressive following" is against Twitter's spam rules.

8-10 pages a day (around 160-200 people) is about the maximum i'd go to.

Nope, I e-mailed their support and didn't get a reply for this.

However, i've got over 4,000 followers using this method and haven't had anything negative back yet.

Remember to spread out the following throughout the day though, i.e. 25 in the morning, 25 a few hours later, 50 in the afternoon, and 100 at night.

Basically you need to make your following patterns seem human.

              - James.
P.S. Don't forget to take 'off days' where you don't follow anyone at all.

I didn't read the above replies, so apologies in advance if i'm repeating someone else, however.

My advice - don't use auto following software. All that does it follow back people you don't know who are adding you to get more followers. You're simply joining in the popularity content & creating noise on the network.

Follow people you admire, trust, know or recommend.

I've developed a few simple rules for myself and twitter which keeps it clean and easy:

                1. I got heaps of followers and then realised i couldn't keep up with them all. So I deleted everyone but who i knew.

                2. Anyone who DM's me SPAM get's instantly unfollowed.

                3. Anyone who's posts consist mostly of sales / affiliate links, gets unfollowed.

Twitter is about relationships. you could make more money of 10 followers who know and trust you and your advice, then 10,000 followers who don't' know you from a bar of soap.

And this is why people fail at Twitter.

I agree with point three, but the rest of your post is totally incorrect.

If you want to have personal relationships with people, make a personal account. But if you want to use Twitter for business and marketing, you need as many numbers as possible.

Twitter is a numbers game, like it or not. When people see you have a great deal of followers, they see you as an authority figure which helps them trust you (amongst many other things which I couldn't fit into one post).

                  You say...

"Twitter is about relationships. you could make more money of 10 followers who know and trust you and your advice, then 10,000 followers who don't' know you from a bar of soap."
This is also not true. Why? Because even if you have 10,000 followers, it doesn't mean the people following you will have 10,000 followers too. In addition, Twitter is all about building trust. This trust doesn't come from nowhere - you have to BUILD IT from the ground up.

So much misinformation about Twitter nowadays it's unreal...

                  - James.

But those you added out of nowhere start to trust you after a while, and therefore become targeted.

Anyway, even if they're targeted to begin with, it doesn't mean to say they'll be interested in what you do.

Twitter is all about building trust, and is a long-term thing.

300 a day is the maximum I use - the same proven method of getting followers on Twitter has been brought up about 20 times in the last 4 weeks.

    Here's the bottom line:
Getting followers by following big numbers (max 300imo) every day works.
How you chose to pick these 300 is up to you, personally I target them in my own way, but several methods work.
Doing this on autopilot is the ONLY way I would chose to do it because it's a pain in the arse, especially if you run multiple twitter accounts in different market spaces.

      Hey new guy here.

I cant post links but look up casinojack on twitterholic

I am getting new affiliates every day and getting adds like crazy. I Might be aggressive, and I do engage users. Let me tel you the real trick.

      Time is money

Do this and it will work for you. especially the wee hours of the night

      1. click on profile of someone who tweeted you.
      2. If they have over 2,000 followers follow top 5 - 10 ONLY, not page after page
      3. Now follow one of those top 10 followers and continue
      3. repeat

These people most likely online will follow you faster

I am amazed people who spend time looking up keywords to find profiles similar to them, and the follow ALL of their followers. Like they are all in the same niche? You know how he did it?

My method is working look at my stats daily. Anyone else who has a system lets see it in action. I think many work but i really think the key is to finding people online at that time. Hope my first post here is helpfull, and GL2UA

I know someone who has over 50k followers and can barely keep up with all of them. That's nice, but I like my limited amount of followers (and I follow everyone) because then I can stay conversational, post interesting bits, and usually get feedback from it.
I don't want to be a part of noise. I want to be a contributing member.
So to me, numbers don't matter. It's quality.

      lol!

Doing this straight away annihilates your chances of your followers ever buying from you.

What do spammers do? Send a link without an introduction. This is what you're doing.

What do you think all the other thousands of Twitter marketers are doing? Just this. And failing incredibly because of it.

Be different, stand out, show yourself to be a person, and make people trust you. That's the key.

Sure. I totally agree. But the point is not to spam. The point is to create credibility from the very beginning. Do you think by getting something like 1000000 of followers and tweeting your site url that that isn't spamming. Sure it is. It is important to write tweets like I've just finished updating my blog at www.yoursite.com
And always remember to give something to your audience for free or to help them. This will build credibility which is the most important piece of the puzzle.

And always remember to give something to your audience for free or to help them. This will build credibility which is the most important piece of the puzzle.

Of course, that's what all of my above posts state, and my 2 hour Twitter seminar stated

My Twitter stream is constant content and value, and yours should be too. I've always stuck by the following ratio for tweeting:

          11:6:3 (out of 20)

11 = Straight out content + advice without links
6 = links to helpful articles, blogs, free stuff, etc
3 = promotion, i.e. affiliate stuff, sales pages or special offers, etc

And it works so far. I'm at just over 4,300 followers now and with most tweets I do, at least one person RT's it. That's the result of a trusting relationship.

Obviously I'm always striving to get to know as many followers as possible while providing them content, resulting in more trusting relationships. That's what Twitter is about. But the higher your following count, the more people see your valuable tweets with awesome content and therefore the higher the chance of more people trusting you.

As I said, it's a long term process though.

          - James.

Doesn't matter how many followers you have if you haven't setup your profile or background. The idea is to drive traffic to your site.

Congrats on the 800 followers... I agree with your post. I think 95% of peoples updates should be personal updates and interesting links to articles etc. and maybe 5% of the time a link (yours or an affiliate) to a product or service. If this balance gets out of whack people will most likely unfollow you or ignore your Tweets.

Fully agree with Jason on that, you don't want to spam twitter so much with 60+% of your own links 24/7 people will not be intrested, keep it personal and throw a few odd links here and there and your on your way!

You need as many Twitter Followers as you need MySpace Friends. Oh wait, all these are the same people who used to be on MySpace. I guess they're now on Twitter.

Don't get hung up on how many followers you have.

Twitter is about building relationships and exchanging information.

      My advice would be.

Find a topic you want to tweet about and search for it using
      Twitter Search.

Look at the people that are talking about your topic and choose which people to follow based on their tweets. Also look for people that retweet a lot. They could help you spread you message.

The advantage of picking followers this way is you will have a topic in common and they are more likely to follow you back and stay.

If you are not already using it, I recommend getting TweetDeck: a simple and fast way to experience Twitter to help you manage the people you follow and keep track of searchs.

You can set up groups of people you really want to watch so their tweets don't get lost in the flood of posts. You can also filter the feeds in real time to look for links or questions. Tweetdeck will make this all very easy.

I completely agree that you need quality followers. That is why Mike Dillard decided to "unfollow" myself (& 9,000+ others) through a friendly email saying don't be offended, but I'm not truly following you.

Sure enough, the next day he went from 10,000 to just under 1,000.

And of course, curiosity had me looking at the "quality" tweeter he was following!

I have over 40,000 followers that i have created since christmas and they are a huge amount of them that are regular contributors the only problem is that there are that many of them it is hard to keep up.

But if you want to build up a good following i would say to create a good income stream from twitter you should look at having 1000-2000 followers and this can very easily be achieved in a month for very little effort.

If you need help gaining twitters i have a great free ebook without needing to optin or anything:
