Building an Email List

Hi everyone

I have a site that gets anywhere from 15-20K unique visitors a month and I want to start building up an email list.

What are some plugins/tools/sites you use to manage your lists?
I have used MailChimp in the past - what do you use to manage email contacts? I am going to use Aweber or mailchimp - any pros/cons for each?

Does anyone have any advice on using a pop up to ask visitors to join, or adding a box to each post? I'm guessing there is no concrete answer but I am looking for some help.

Thanks

Yes, plenty of pros for Aweber (and GetResponse) and cons for Mailchimp. This post will get you started on them: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7127427

And if you're thinking of (or doing) any affiliate marketing, at all, this one might, too: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post3762385

Yes, but it doesn't really matter much. What matters to you is your testing results.

Maybe - maybe not. Still there are "obvious traps to avoid" (such as assuming that a pop-up's working well for you because people opt in to it - that's "attractive but flawed" thinking). :p

    Good luck!

Do you use the Craigslist forums? Or do you post ads with a question? & has it proven to be effective at all?

Sorry to seem like I'm bombarding you! Just curious!

Aweber is really great for a lot of purposes. I am personally against pop-ups - if I don't like them on the websites I am visiting, why would I put one on my websites.
People that want to subscribe will subscribe anyway - and the ones that don't will just get annoyed.

first of all make high quality post that'll entertain your readers and in the end of the post offer some freebies in all your posts which they'll have to sign up before getting it.

there are also other pop up plugins you can use that'll pop to the user to sign up before viewing the page you want to read. make short attractive pop ad and offer some freebie as well. this is very effective too.

place banners by side offering also some freebie and the link it to your squeeze page.

Ive used the Craigslist strategy as well before using a squeeze page. You could always place a free beneficial report on the special offer forum. Just my 2 cents.

if you're serious about building a list then you need a paid and professional auto responder service, forget free

it might help if you tell us what niche you are in, this way you will get more specific advice on what to do

for instance if you are in a niche like muscle building then you should also create a separate squeeze page

however if the niche is something like free screensavers then things will be a lot different in terms of how you do things

I use Aweber and find them very good. I also do not like pop ups especially when people use multiple ones and it becomes very annoying. If you are considering using popups only use one.

Everyone talking about Aweber, and Get Response are good services. What if you get up one day and these services business goes down, everyone knows companies websites goes down all the time, so whats your backup plans?

You need to back up your lists however often you feel it's advisable.

And try to stack the deck in your favor by using a well-established, professional autoresponder company, rather than against yourself by using a new one, less professional/reliable one, or a free one.

I'm not a big fan of mailchimp for building lists since even though I've never really heard of anyone getting kicked off their system for using affiliate links, it is technically against their TOS. Unless you can guarantee that you never will use affiliate links, I would stay away.

Personally, I use and am a big fan of GetResponse. They used to have a free account for up to 500 subscribers, but sadly got rid of it. I think you can still get a 30 day free trial though. They've been great for me, easy to work with, and their support is excellent.

      Thanks Justin!

We do still have a free trial for 30 days and requires no CC to sign up. The trial is limitted to a list of 250. As always, if you have any questions, just PM me.

As for pop-ups. I've never been a fan, but the stats say they work. However, I'm with Alexa, you have to test to be sure!
