Finally decided to create a website the RIGHT way - I'm better for it!
So - I've been creating websites for a while now.
In the beginning, my outsourcing techniques have been to look for 'shortcuts'. I was buying links, content, twitter followers, Facebook likes, everything else to get me 'ahead'.
All of these techniques were used as 'shortcuts' because I was CONVINCED that these short-term solutions would yield long-term results!
But then, Google update after update came out, including-- Penguin and Panda basically relegating all of those outsourced techniques null and void overnight. The backlinking and content no longer 'counted' and my rankings suffered.
Twitter banned some accounts, got rid of some of my followers, and recently, Facebook just got rid of all of the null 'likes'.
And you know what? I agree with EVERYTHING they are doing.
Think of Google Facebook, and Twitter and what they want... They want 'only what is BEST for their users'. I know that might be hard to understand by some of us that have been burned, but let's pause and think of that for a bit.
Google - their main focus is for people to find what they are looking for as the 'top result' in their search. Their entire algorithm is based on this notion and is always changing so that this ONE principle remains true. They rank this (in very BROAD terms) via relevancy and popularity - with Google and Panda, they are moving towards the RELEVANCY more and more... And what is the best way Google measures relevancy?
Content. Good, original, clear, native-written content. I prefer to keep this ON-SITE because why would I give away my content and rank someone else's site? Especially since this is the most valuable asset Google ranks against?
Now take Facebook: The reason why they got rid of fake 'Like's' is because Facebook wanted to make sure the integrity of what was TRULY popular got what it deserved - and not who had the 'most money' put forth in paying for the likes.
It wanted an accurate measure of the populace in terms of what is actually an incredible product/service/person/event/etc.
Same thing with Twitter. Is Justin Bieber really that popular? Or is he just paying for fans?
These services want the INTEGRITY of their services to remain intact, and if people went to them seeing only SPAM, they would leave at a much faster rate than the people 'marketing to be #1' being mad when those privileges are taken away and leaving.
So what do we do? How to we TRULY make a long-lasting impact?
It's really simple.
We have a great product we're passionate about - and everything else pretty much falls into place--including the work required.
If you REALLY have a great product, you can't shut up about it. The content flows - and it is native, it is original, and your customers naturally flock to your expertise.
Your fans and followers increase as a result. This is the NATURAL progression of things because when you have a GREAT product you have PASSION with, it is almost INSTINCTUAL on how to market it to the masses.
Google loves that.
And so I've approached my new site this way. It's been in development for YEARS, it's been something I've lived and practiced, and have implemented to others. It is something I've been data-collecting on for a long, long time - and now - through all of my previous sites and mistakes I've made I've decided to be convinced by Google to just do it the right way.
I have a great product that I can't shut up about - and I just let everything else just happen through instinctual marketing.
Just like Google, Facebook, and Twitter (and countless other avenues) have been asking since the beginning.
