Increasing Confirm rates in optins

I have always wondered why is it like people optin to get a freebie but a lot of them don't confirm.

I mean if they didn't need it they wouldn't have opted in the first place..

I saw in my aweber stats that I got 25 optins in last 24 hours but 11 pf them didn't confirm... I mean that's almost 50% of the leads go to waste..

Can you guys suggest anything that I can do to increase my confirmation rate?

Note: I do tell them on the next page that you will receive an email from "Bharat Tekwani" and make sure to confirm it...

You can use single opt in then direct them towards download page.

For me, I didn't confirm any of the opt-in. In my thank you page, I explicitly mention that they will receive an email with the link to the download. So they will be expecting an email from me.

I have a 2nd email auto-sent out the 2nd day asking if they have received my download link. The next few emails are normal emails.

There will still be people who don't receive any emails and they think that it is spam. So far, I get only 2 spam complaints for every 500 subscriptions. Not an issue at all from Aweber.

So this approach works well for me so far.

    That's why I never use a double-optin process.

Prospects can't be bothered going through all that double-optin rigmarole.

It's a pain for them, and so they don't do it (it's lucky you're only losing 50%)

I've used single-optins for over 5 years now, and wouldn't do it any other way.

Double opt-ins mostly serve the interests of the AR company. Single opt-ins
are the way to go in most cases.

To my shock, I recently discovered Aweber doesn't always send out the confirmation email. I ran several tests and they sometimes either fail to send the confirmation email or they are so slow to send it that it ends up forgotten.

I don't know what to do about it, but I'm thinking of switching to a "no confirmation" mode and take my chances with that. My tests show that I have missed out on approximately 25-40 percent of optins because of Aweber.

I send all my optins to a page which explains to them how to optin. It has an auto play mp3 that gives them the exact directions on how they whitelist my email, look for the confirm email in their spam folder, etc. once I started doing this I have less than half as many non confirms. I also make sure they don't get to my than you page until they have confirmed.

Of course I also have single optin lists as well.

right now you are worried about confirmations..
but in the longterm you should consider, deliver-ability and openrate..
been there with single optin - increases your bounces and eventually has low deliverability and openrates.

double optin is good for your business

Most that do not confirm will be the ones who do not open if you use single opt in. I have always been a big fan of single opt in but have been testing double for the last month exclusively. Warrior Forum leads and MMO leads in general are bad to give a crap email address thinking the prize is on the flip side.

Explain in the squeeze the download is delivered by email and you use double conformation for their protection. It will keep the BS emails at a minimum anyway.

AS I said .. I have always used single only but have recently realized any business one wants to sell has more perceived value if they have a confirmed list. For this reason I always figure out some way to entice my buyers to join a double confirm list .. even if they originally come from a single.

Why don't you use single opt ins?

There are many gurus online who do this to this day and still have success.

The majority might not confirm because they had no idea they had to (they might be new to Internet marekting), the confirm email got into spam, they didn't have time to confirm, and a bunch of other problems/issues that may occur.

I learned this the hard way, always go single optin.

Also, maybe they weren't confirming because you free gift didnt have a high perceived value in their eyes.

a subscriber who doesn't bother to check spam to confirm.. what guarantees that down the road they will go spam to check what you've sent?

from experience i have an 8k list single optin.. that gets under 600 clicks per mailing and i have a 3.5k double optin that averages 550 to 900 clicks depending on offer..

for anyone just starting out you might be encouraged by number of daily single optins.. but two years down the line.. your competitor will be making more money from a smaller list.. with less effort.

Also email clients like gmail have algorithms.. so the more readers mark your email as "NOT SPAM" the higher the chances of your messages getting delivered to the inbox tomorrow.. after all why send emails if they cant get delivered or read?

Another SUPERTIP - your FROM.. on the email is very important..
Don't use your Name(s) too early.. for the first 3 to 5 emails (including confirm email) use the DOMAIN NAME or PRODUCT NAME (Not your name) and then in the body sign off as follows
      John Doe
      www.productdomain.com

eventually you can test how the openrates are like if the emails comes from
      a) John Doe or
      b) ProductDomain.com

for example: which email are you likely to take seriously
      a) from: Bob Pearson : subject: Domain Cancellation
      b) from Godaddy.com : subject: Domain Cancellation

a or b - which one do you feel immediately and directly affects you?
      b of course..
btw Bob Pearson is not some random name.. it's Godaddy's C.E.O

this is not just an opinion.. but it's what I've tested and experienced
