Give away for free or charge a nominal fee

Hi warriors...I am working on a site and almost finished what was to be my free report to start building a list. Well, this short report has turned into a 25 page eBook (with perhaps 10 more pages to go) with worksheets, templates, etc.

I'm tempted to create a true "giveaway" (I've got some ideas) and charge a nominal fee for this eBook.

Do you have any pointers as to when something should be "paid" vs. "free". I know the money is in the list yet at the same time I could offer something "lighter" as a freebie and then, after building a relationship with my list, offer my eBook.

Thoughts?

If you feel that you can come up with something for free that would truly benefit your crowd then do that and save the ebook for a wso and promote it to your list as well.

    Good luck!

    Hi,

If you have something even better to sell, then give away the ebook. If you don't, then maybe take a few pages or a chapter from the ebook, give that away and upsell the full book.

My take: Instead of giving away the book for free, sell it for a small amount (even if it's $1). This way your list won't just be comprised of freebie seekers,

I would counter that 25-35 pages IS a short report.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Depends on the value of the product, i'm a firm believer in giving away content for free to build trust with your list, additional things can be sold as a OTO (webinars, coaching, etc)

It just occurred to me that this report, combined with worksheets, templates, and other goodies could be turned into a video-based training course (and a darn good one at that

Like a great crack dealer, give some of your best stuff for free, I would give a small teaser for free, sell the whole thing for a few dollars and get some real buyers on your list
