User generated content sites....membership ideas!

I have been a member of the warrior forum for a couple of years but have never really had much interaction, so yes this is my first post but I wouldn't consider myself a noob by any means. After consuming many a list of WSO's and how to guides I have come to a couple of conclusions: 1. I prefer having my own product/service than being an affiliate 2. taking action is vital, one can waste years chasing the perfect idea. The perfect idea doesn't exist. 3. I would prefer putting all of my effort into something that I own and can liquidate if needed after it becomes profitable.

There is a lot of noise in the "membership site" niche but must people get stuck on content creation. So why not avoid content creation all together? creating user content generated sites. For example, HomeExchange.com focuses on those who have nice homes and would rather trade their home while traveling instead of paying a giant hotel bill. The content is already created, the house is there and many people are catching on to the idea of not paying hotel bills. You are just creating that niche community and charging your ends users for being able to contact each other. I'm sure dating etc is a profitable niche, but it I would prefer creating a real community that people will be coming back to use over and over again.

How many of you all own user generated content sites? I am in the process of setting one up in the design niche....the client tells the designer what they want to be designed. Then all of the designers are notified and upon the acceptance of the final design you take a commission. The client gets their design, the designer gets paid and you get the benjis for connecting them. Don't think freelancer, I'm being more specific....the site will offer 1-3 services max as to be easier to brand. Who wants to chime in?

Sounds like a good idea. Usually 'Content' is used to increase ranking on search engines. If this membership site won't be using any organic search engine traffic, I don't see the need for any content at all. I would build the site, and then build a reputation. A membership site won't be anything without reputation. Getting reputation via paid advertising, social advertising, and any other forms of getting known.
