Silly Wordpress Question

6 replies
I have Wordpress installed on one domain and want to have Wordpress on another domain.

Do I have to go through the install process again using fantastico on EVERY domain I want to use it on or is there a way to copy and paste it from domain to domain?

Thanks!

    You have to install separately on each domain. There are MySQL databases involved along with the files/pages it creates.

    That being said, I believe there is software out there that allows you to clone your WP to another domain, but not sure where to find this at the moment.

    If you want a new blog on this new domain, then yes, you have to re-do the installation from scratch. There is no "copy-paste" that will let you do this.

    [If you want to "move" the old blog to a new domain, then there is the export/import stuff, which I won't go into, because I don't think that is what you're asking.]

    After you install on the new domain with Fantastico, you can upload (and over-write) your whole Theme folder and Plugin folder with everything you normally use.

    That saves a lot of time from uploading each and every plugin everytime.

    @VegasGreg: Good point.

    Noob Warning: Just be careful NOT to overwrite the entire blog folder - that will wipe out your new wp-config.php file :-)
