Making money out of vector portraits

Hi!

I guess a lot of guys that are new to internet marketing and making money by rendering service will benefit a lot from what you can share here. I want to offer a service but I'm not sure how to start, particularly in promoting/marketing what I have to offer.

I do a lot of vector based artworks and among the things that I do, I feel specially fond of making vector portraits. These are samples of what I create :

Rick Grimes
Channing Tatum
Gramps
Pose

I've seen caricature websites and I know they are good gifts. I hope to get the same crowd and I'm hoping that people would take interest in my works for print, maybe marketing colaterals and website graphics also.

How do I start marketing my works? I am creating a website (on my personal time) where I can offer to create there kinds of custom graphics. Should I cold call? Or maybe do article marketing? Which marketing tactics have you found most effective for these kinds of services?

Thank you for your input. I'm terribly sorry if I posted on the wrong forum it my thread could be moved to somewhere more appropriate, please let me know.

    Dear Lezzur,

Now you have almost answered your own query. You can surely try two things-
    1) Online marketing
    2) Offline Marketing

Now let us take No.1 Online marketing first:
    a) Make your social network strong, so to do that you need have social network account and start adding friends for couple of weeks and maintain them with msg, tweets, posting new info or products. So, if you have, five social network accounts, you should maintain them properly. i.e. if you have twitter account and you are following your targeted viewers and they are following you back, then it might be a good idea to post tweet every 6-8 hours time to keep your audience updated, then you might want to update your facebook page, G+ page, posting youtube videos in your channel every now and then and many others..... ( Remember this is not just one time but everyday / every week / every month )
    b) Then go onto relevant forum, join and become a part of the forum ( Discuss with your forum peers ), slowly when you have gained enough trust then surely start advertising your products in the forum.
    c) Write some articles and make it useful and interesting to your audience and post it to top article directories, PDF document sharing sites and many more places,
    d) Make your blog and keep posting every now and then interesting things and invite people.
    e) Off course do not forget to do your press release, because your product and sites deserves it. Think if you had your own business, you would have done a press release in your local newspaper about your upcoming/new/ business.

Now, the (a-e) requires every day update and maintaining it strongly.

    Part 2 Offline marketing
    1) Design Flyers, banners and posters and distribute it to your local community.
    2) Join trade show and share your booklet and leaflets.
    3) Get some freebies printed with your website address and distribute it to your local community.
    4) Prize draw ( Make it fun for your audience ); if they win then you might award them with vouches in return they need to follow your fan pages or something like that.

If you follow both online and offline marketing together, then that might be the best solution to make decent money from your service.

    Kind regards,
    Swrajit

    Hi

Yes, you could decide how to sell them but social networking will drive a lot of traffic. And images draw crowds. Funnel that traffic to your blog where you let people know how they can get their own vector portrait.

Do things like create vector memes. When a meme goes viral, create a one in vector form from a well known person or image (think a vector image of the ruined Jesus fresco or the most photogenic man in the world). Then Tweet/Pinterest/facebook/etc. An image like that will stand out and draw traffic.

Forums where people would like a cool little avatar like yours may have some potential. Any big busy forum where people like to stand out with their avatar: IM, Gaming, Fitness.

There are many service web sites where you could post a gig, depending on your price point.

There are gigs like this on fiverr:

Stripdancer will make a professional vector image of your photo or your friend photo for $5, only on fiverr.com

But if you envision a higher price point, I would go directly after your target market, whcih is the caricature website/gift model.

    Also on fiverr:

Ryadavpali will make your caricature for $5, only on fiverr.com

Konco will make a caricature drawing of you for $5, only on fiverr.com

Most gigs like this are leader gigs with upsells for adding a background, colour, or the actual vector image file (as opposed to a .jpg of the image).

Even on fiverr a decent vector image could run $10-20.

You'll make infinitely more money designing comic strip characters (like on your portfolio) for internet marketers.

They love all that stuff, and apparently they convert quite well on sales letters etc.. Something to look into.
