No it certainly is NOT legal.

I really can't believe you would need to ask that question though.

Can you walk into a library, take a book off the shelf, copy the pages and put your own name on that book and start selling it? Ofcourse not... but that's no different to what you are asking.

When has copyright infringement ever been ok?

But yeah, it's not ok. :-)

    Happy new year all!

At first I thought your reply was about a past problem with an actual Ikea lawsuit, which I was unaware of.

Then For some reason I hit refresh and it took me to the top of this thread. On my way down I caught this:

Make your own video, youtube will delete your video if it's a copy. Although whether will ban you or not I don't know

When things are done for profit that changes the game on allot of things.

Something as simple as inserting an affiliate link into what otherwise would be considered parody is bound to be against the rules, and maybe even the law.

Ask yourself this, if they are offering it, then why aren't they doing it themselves? Internet marketing is a real solo type of operation. Unless you are partners I could see anyone offering their Youtube videos soley to steal your marketing ideas.

Make your video unique and you can upload it without any problem.

Back two years ago, i had download and re upload many video and my account get banned two months ago. You will get a lot of problem if you copy others video and make it your own.

    My advise, don't do it.

Love the way you say "borrow" when you really mean rip off someone else's video.

    NO. It's not legal

If whoever told you that also told you the sun sets in the west, I'd advise having your own compass and clock to verify it.

LOL!!! A bowl of crabby flakes this morning, John?

I always love your replies but you seem a bit more caustic than usual today... not a bad thing....

Maybe so, but it seems like the ignorati are running wild lately.

Actually, my first reaction was to simply report the thread as someone trying to stir up trouble to get views on their sig (offering a site/business for sale). I still think that's the true motive for the thread, but answered on the (tiny) chance it was legit. I know there are manuals out there floating around advising this exactly.

People, if you think it's okay to do something shady-to-illegal because some report floating around says it's okay, think about this...

Whose account will they ban when you get caught?
        Who will get sued?
Will all be forgiven if you explain that someone told you it was okay?

Bottom line: who gets hurt and how badly if you proceed and they are wrong?

(Spoiler alert: The correct answer is you, and potentially very badly.)

Very much so, the last few days.

I normally notice it at weekends, and think to myself something along the lines of "Saturday posters" (call me churlish) ... at the moment they're perhaps "Christmas/New Year posters" or something - I don't know, but it's been very noticeable lately, as you say. I'm biting my tongue, half the time, when I respond to threads, and responding to fewer than I initially want to (probably not a bad thing, in itself, really!).

And a very Happy New Year to you, John.

Alexa, when I'm in that mood, this is what I do. I read just the subject lines and answer them in my mind. For example, looking at some current threads

I think this is a legit question here.
For someone who just joined...maybe. That's not the case here and that's why it seems like an odd question to ask.

Kay, I did look at the join date, as well as the "tristatemedia" username. Someone whose business is purportedly 'media' should already know that the video equivalent of a chop shop is illegal. So why ask, unless there's some other motivation?

You'll notice the the OP has also not bothered to come back and respond to anyone...

                Strike two.

As soon as you see the question

you don't even need to read the OP to know that the answer is "No".

Yes, it is definitely legal. Redistributing it is not.

By the way, you've used up your allotment of question marks for the month.

You are not going to borrow the video. You are going to steal it and then pretend that it is your own.

This is not the way to do things on the internet. You should create your own and then upload them to your account.

It seems that you want to take the easy road which you shouldn't.

I had people "borrow" my videos of myself and add their own links. This is THEFT.

I don't think that you would want others to do the same to you if you were to upload your own personal videos. How would you feel about that?

Youtube's T&C states that the videos (with audio, if any) should be something that you have made (your own or that you have permission on). And there cannot be more than one ownership for a video (in this case the first person/channel to upload the video would be counted as its sole owner). So, the answer to your question would be 'No, its not legal'.

You can embed the videos on your website, and use it that way , but you have to give ownership to their video!

      Welcome back. Strike two rescinded.

If the site was sold some time ago, why leave it in your sig? Just curious...

Like I said, I did post what I hope was a useful answer on the chance you were legit. Seems you got your answer in spades, though.
