Booked an expired domain - getting a lot of traffic

Hi I had booked a domain because it was an exact matching keyword domain having monthly searches of 50k+

Now I have developed a small site on it, I am getting a lot of traffic and my alexa has reached 170k

I wanted to know is this an isolated incidence or it is a pattern that can be replicated?

    I am not too sure.

Maybe that site is sitting on GOLD right now and what ever you add to it, hopefully affiliate programs, there is a good chance that this strategy will bring you lots of sales in the coming months and years even if you don't touch it.

Maybe this is a few days thing where your traffic will die down.

    Only time will tell.

Use it today to get some affiliate links and see what happens. I am very eager to know.

Hello Yuvraj. No worries. I don't to just outright spill the beans since there are many people who will be flooding your thread before too long with all of the best ideas.

All I want to do is push some good vibes your way and let you know that you are now 50% through one of the toughest challenges in the marketing world of our digital age. Let the light guide you and once you find that other 50% and can bring in a few dollars for connecting the two. You're set.

    Repeat your process x infinity.

Thanks a lot for your encouraging words,

But I have been really unsuccessful in earning anything through IM or any affiliate.

Therefore experienced warriors please suggest me any affiliate or product that I can sell to this traffic or that might work...

I am just to excited to see if something works here

I don't mean to piss in the pot, but Facebook are right up there amongst those who take action to acquire domains with their name in them.

We had a handful of domains that had to be surrendered last year after I overlooked a couple of domains that were foolishly registered some time ago with the Facebook name in them.

You might have to maybe ask yourself why it wasn't renewed...?

I just suggest at least heeding the warning in case you intend to throw any money at it.

What we have to remember is that copyright infringement of trademark names can only lead to a claim of damages. In this case the body of crime would be revenues for [blank] using the trademark name "facebook". What isn't illegal OP is generating traffic, to then generate traffic to something else completely separate, and then bank on the traffic at that point.

Another thing to consider if you are at the point of domain registration is maybe trying to target the oppposite. Such as a funny site full of dumb statuses. Maybe call it bestlamebookstatus.com etc etc etc. That isn't illegal either.

        Skype me OP

The primary reason for domain name revoke from large corporations is not damages / loss of earnings. Please don't make the mistake of assuming this. Making that assumption is exactly why people end up getting into tricky situations.

The true issue is what's known as "Passing off".

This means a person is employing a trademarked name and use of the name itself warrants claim for passing off for the fact that use of trademark is prohibited and fully claimable.

You're exactly right! Thank you for providing a link explaining what I was saying. To quote your WIKI

"Passing off is a common law tort which can be used to enforce unregistered trademark rights. The tort of passing off protects the goodwill of a trader from a misrepresentation that causes damage to goodwill.
""The law of passing off prevents one person from misrepresenting his or her goods or services as being the goods and services of the claimant, and also prevents one person from holding out his or her goods or services as having some association or connection with the plaintiff when this is not true."""

Its the first two sentences on the page. What it is saying is that simply using a trademark name in your business model to mislead or attract attention to your business for whatever gain that may be is wrong since you are not associated legally to that other business. You are right in the end using Facebook in your domain name is most likely not a great idea and thank you for jumping on here to help! I didn't quite jump on to the fact that FB would care that much. Perhaps they will.
