Giveaways - What Works Best for List Building?

What's your opinion of the most effective giveaway to gain FREE subscribers within the process of list-building? I realize that the particular niche plays a role, but I'm looking for a general consensus. FREE reports, e-book, membership access are examples of "problem solving" content for example. Opinions and/or thoughts?

    Hi Leon,

I've had more success generating leads from giveaway events using a product that includes private label rights.

Your gift needs to stand out from the crowd and be compelling enough for people to sign up to another mailing list.

Although these events are a good way to get more people (leads) into your funnel, you shouldn't expect to make immediate sales from those who join your list.

Be selective in those you choose to participate in - starting with the promoter.

Don't have unrealistic expectations - if you can get 50 new confirmed leads, you're doing good.

Unless you are giving away your own product, look through the gifts that have already been submitted so you aren't competing with other contributors.

Lastly, just because there are some big name marketers that are contributing it doesn't mean the event will bring you in a ton of leads. Most of the gurus do little, if any, promotions. They are only there to get new people in their funnel.

    Hope this helps!

    Steve

2 things. Newsletter subscriptions and "Special Reports" are the tired-and-true, bread-and-butter way to go (combining the two can be even better). 90% of the time you will want to avoid using the term "free ebook." Try some split testing to be sure about your offer... no reason you can't narrow your choices down and then figure out what works for your subject/audience (except some extra work and material development)

Giveaways are a catch 22 if you don't have a list already.

Most require you to send traffic to keep your giveaway item listed. Easy to do if you already have a list.

If you don't have your own list, you must use another method to send traffic to the giveaway. And maybe some of that traffic will take you up on your giveaway offer. If you're using another traffic method, it's much better to send them to your own site to sign up for a freebie.

The person who hosts the giveaway event is the one who really makes out, and they usually use this script... Giveaway Gifts Manager Script

    Hey ...

Like in a comment above, giveaways are good for building lists... You dont want to just be looking for 1 to join though but be continually seeking them every week and join them all !

also mentioned above is not making sales from those subscribers right away.. VERY true !

As these people are just after your free product you need to work on these people and build a relationship with them over time... Dont get them and then send them an offer.. You will lose them off your list.

You have to remember, these people specifically join to get free stuff.. They dont care who its off they just want it for nothing !

So they need to be treated differently to say a subscriber that signs up at your blog... These people may have read about you and decided to check out your product.

Use giveaways 100 % !! Just use them the right way !

    good luck

eBooks/white papers/special reports are what I myself use. I recently read on a blog post elsewhere that being entered into a contest to have a special case study done on the winner is effective as well.
