Default Travel Affiliate Programs

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to go with an affiliate program for the travel industry? I've got a few questions:

- Is it better to go with a known name like expedia or does that matter?
- Is it better to do an expedia type affiliate program as opposed to joining a travel program where you get your own website and send traffic from your website to that website?
- Does it get too messy to segregate your "offers" by using one affiliate program for hotels, another for airfare, another for car rentals, etc?
- What travel affiliate program do you recommend?

Any experienced advice would be appreciated.
Melissa

One site that I might suggest when it comes to looking for affiliate programs on travel would be commission junction at www.cj.com. They have a bunch of them that you can apply for and join. I joined Vayama through commission junction, though Orbitz and Vonage also have affiliate programs there. Also, I think linkshare at www.linkhsare.com have a few as well (such as Blue Bay resorts). Thought that I would point that site out.

I used to work with Expedia as one of their travel associates. The company could give you a good income. Then later on, make your own travel website and work independently.

You can also check the commission junction website if you are looking for other affiliate programs on travel and other types of industry.

Good luck!

Can you give anymore details as to good income? Do you have any idea how much a top affiliate makes or a travel website working independently makes? I know that there's a big variance, but generally speaking....were you privy to any of that information?

Thanks,
Melissa

CJ.com has great travel affiliates to choose from. I use Expedia and Hotels.com there.

I used to know the affiliate manager for and heard good things about IAN. They have several affiliate programs under their umbrella like Hotels.com, TravelNow and others.

Here's the info: ian.com - Overview

Hope this helps and best of luck!

At what point do you think a forum (in the travel niche) should add an affiliate program?

At the moment im just trying to build a community and not worry about making money
