What do you guys do with websites that did not work out? Just let them go?

If they have traffic and/or even a tiny amount of earnings you can flip them pretty easily.

    Hi Brian

We just killed off about 30 sites that the information was too old, or the info was too outdated and it would have been too much messing around with them - so rather than keep them we got rid of them.

But...If the sites you have are about evergreen products do any minor updates and keep them and give them another push.

    Regards

    Bronwyn and Keith
PS. We do a clean-up once a year about now so this is normal practice for us...LOL

It depends, if I still own the domains for longer than like 6 months and they are about evergreen products I just keep them and check back in a couple of months and see if the rankings improved. If they didnt I just don't renew the domains and kill em.

I just kill them off, but that's just because I'm not big on flipping. Been there suffered through that, better to focus on numbers than any individual attachment.

I've done a variety of things with sites that didn't work out.

Some I renew on the basis that "I'll get round to working on them"!!
    Some I just don't renew.
Some I "re-purpose" and use the domain for something else.
    Some I let go.
Some I put a forward on, if they are in a niche where I have other sites.

Unless the domain name is incredible, I dump them.

What does "un-ranked" have to do with "not working out"? Those terms are only remotely equivalent to people whose businesses depend on search engine traffic, I think? There are a few dozen other business models, as well ... I'd do everything with them that I do with all my other sites, i.e. earn my living from them.

Has any of those websites got you any traffic? If they did then you should have kept them and added some affiliate links to them. Then if you would just leave them as they are, I am sure that they would get your some sales over the course of a year.

      Fixed that for you...

When I read the OP, my reaction was 'I wonder which question he wants answered?'

Unranked: Depends on how much money they make, or how much potential I believe they have. If they make enough, or show enough potential, I keep on keeping on. If not, I dump them and let the domain expire.

Don't work out: Dump them and let the domain expire.

I could probably make a few extra bucks trying to flip them or sell the domains, but that would require me to take time away from things that are working out...

I make enough on most of them to at least pay for the domain name each year so I don't mind letting them sit. They all get "some" traffic.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

I will just research why is un-ranked and try my best to get rank as there must be reason I created it in the first place.

I make money with them. Although I do rank for a few good keywords .. it was not on purpose.
