Hosted Wordpress blog

Happy New Year everyone!

I have a free WP blog and wish to host it so I can monetize it.

I've purchased a domain on GoDaddy and already have existing hosting on Globat.com. I know these may not be the best options, but it's what I have in hand.

My plan is to market my services (I am a proofreader and copy editor). Do I set up a blog using my domain, or a website which includes a blog?

#2 Since I work at home and want to promote the same, can I have a blog that covers the benefits of working at home, e.g. travel? I have a following on Facebook and I hope to use my blog to keep that following while having them see the rest I have to offer.

Any advice, please?

Kenneth

    Hi Kenneth,

Congratulations on taking action! That's the same first step every successful person has taken.

WordPress is now so sophisticated it can be either a blog OR a website, depending on how you configure it and what theme you use.

The practical difference is that a blog is a type of online of diary - and that implies regular updates, which is why WordPress is 'loved' by Google.

But, in your case I'm guessing that you'll start to offer your services on Warriors, so you'll need a simple website and won't be too concerned about SEO and getting on to the #1 slot on Google.

    Warmest regards,

    Paul

If you want to stack the copywriting deck in your favor with tricks and hacks producing winners like: "$20K in three days" "650 sold" "30% conversion", then you might like to know I'm retiring and will spill the beans to two people. More info here.

      Hi Paul,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, I agree that SEO is not my priority. With my following on Facebook, I reckon I can get viral if I can offer value.

I love your suggestion that I would offer my services on Warriors. I'm still new to Warriors so I will need to look at that more closely.

Do you have any pointers how I should approach Warriors? I mean, they are a savvy and professional group of people.

      Thanks again.

Since you are planning to offer your services, you can build your wordpress website accordingly and have one of its sections to perform as a blog. This way your website will be built in wordpress and have its static pages displayed for your services, while your blog can have regular daily updates.

Thanks! That's what I had in mind.

There are many themes available. What would you suggest I look for when selecting a theme. I'll likely start with a free theme until I can afford a premium one.

Recently I faced an issue with a wordpress theme with one of my personal websites. It was a premium theme and when wordpress was updated a couple of a weeks ago, the theme broke leaving our website broken as well. So I had to contact the theme vendor and had to update the theme again.

The reason for sharing this experience is that when you are looking for a wordpress theme, make sure it is compatible with wordpress updates. Every new wordpress update leaving the theme broken can be a troublesome job for your website. So, I would suggest you to properly study the wordpress theme you are going to use before installing it.

Ofcourse, the theme layout also adds significance depending on the way you wish to design your website. So searching for a theme with your website layout in mind, will help you finalizing it.
