Voice over for videos

Hello,

I have bunch of tutorial videos which are all about 1 minute long, all together it's approx. 10 000 words (script).

I was wondering, where can I find such voice overs? I looked through fiverr, but couldn't find anything decent... And what's the "common" budget for this request?

Thansk!

I've actually used fiverr for this exact thing, my video was like 10 minutes long so I bought two to make up for it. When I get back to my computer I will see if I can find the gig for you.

Fiverr is a good place to start finding such service. But you may also want to check out Odesk.

Personally I think that this is where Fiverr comes into it's own. I had about 10 such video's voiced over and they do sound really quite good!

Personally I would recommend using your own voice.

    Why not?

2013 should be about getting out of your comfort zone.

I agree with you here. I always do my own voice overs. If you're bad at it, practice and get good at it. It's a worthy and free skill, and will transfer over into other areas.

The only reason why you might not want to do it is if you're trying to market in another language, but even then I've heard people do an excellent (even better job) with an accent.

The thing is, I'm not native speaker and nor do I live in England/US... Yes, ofcourse, I can do it by myself, but then it would sound extremely unprofessional... I want my product to be at its finest.

I have an accent, and this can be a huge turnoff for some of the potential buyers.

Thank you for the plug, Sandra, that was very kind of you!

As for accents in voice overs, some indeed do work very well, however if an accent is too thick, making understanding the words difficult, they can backfire.

The most important aspect in recording a voice over is in making the audio sound interesting and pleasant to the ear. They should sound natural with the nuances, voice inflections, pace and emphasis being portrayed properly without background interference or crackling, ringing, and popping noises or a tinny sound regardless of the accent of the voice actor.

Not necessarily at all. I happen to enjoy accents, have been around people with many different accents, and can understand them without missing a word when someone next to me doesn't know what the person is talking about.

There probably will be a few bigots who won't like whichever nationality you are, but there will also people who are biased toward it. Very few people would consider a talk 'unprofessional' because of an accent. If they do they might make the most unreasonable customers anyway, and maybe you wouldn't want them.

I think you should try a couple of voice overs yourself and check what people think of them. I'll volunteer if you like, just pm when you have one ready.

There was a topic on this a few years ago and the consensus was, don't worry about it, do it.

It reminds me of a quote that impressed me lately. It is a bit theatrical, but some of the feeling applies to the situation.

We must live for the few who know and appreciate us, who judge and absolve us, and for whom we have the same affection and indulgence. The rest I look upon as a mere crowd, lively or sad, loyal or corrupt, from whom there is nothing to be expected but fleeting emotions, either pleasant or unpleasant, which leave no trace behind them. I have been using two people on Fiverr and have had great results. I thought I would plug them because they do such a good job.

Female voice - Linneas88 will record any voice over, today, for $5, only on fiverr.com

Male voice - Markc1542 will record a professional voice over up to 60 seconds in length for $5, only on fiverr.com

Not sure why you didn't like fiverr for voice over work. I've used fiverr a few times for this and I've gotten some really good results.
Do a little more research on there and you will be surprised as to the voice over talent in fiverr.

Yep, Fiverr is a great place...

I've had a problem with doing voice-over too
because of my unclear Asian accent...

    Need to practice pronouncing first
    before doing voice-over.
