New User Registration on Wordpress Sites

I have a few websites floating around that are pretty much redundant, but I am getting regular emails from some of them saying there are new users registering...
One of my sites, I get one new registration nearly every day...

There are NO sign up join forms or anything like that on these sites so people must be actually going into the backend and signing up.. eg "example-website.com/wp-admin" and registering...

Why are people doing this? And is there a way to collect all there emails and turn them into a list by a plugin or something, rather than transferring them all by hand?

There is a setting to turn off user registration.

There are various newsletter plugins that allow you to email your registered users, or you could export them. However these emails are probably useless for marketing to, ie they haven't signed for anything you're offering and they're probably just bots anyway.

I agree with Rondo, these email addresses are probably useless. It has to be a script or spambot that does this automatically (to create backlinks I would imagine). Like the spambots that signup for forums, the individuals are probably using a throw-away gmail or yahoo account and sending messages to these addresses would most likely never be read by anyone.
