What's all the twitter buzz about?

I've noticed alot of people claiming how awesome twitter is, and how they can earn ridiculous amounts of money with it.

I really don't see where they are coming from, people go on twitter to socialise, not buy some random product they don't care about, users on twitter don't really seem to be the sort of targeted traffic marketers want.

Also, it only seems to be internet marketers which are using it, I think it will just end up with thousands of marketers trying to sell stuff to each other.

What do you think?

I'm not quite sure where the "ridiculous amounts of money" comes in to twitter. However, it is THE best social networking tool to drive traffic to your site out now. One way marketers get the "ridiculous amounts of money" is through just posting it as they will follow or have followers who are interested in that niche and so they will most probably purchase it. Also, when I posted something to twitter concerning my site I got around 30 unique visits from it demonstrating how good it is for driving traffic for any site of any niche

In my opinion, twitter is not that good for IM.

    WHY?

75% of the people that use twitter are webmasters and they are all trying to sell their products and/or promote their websites.

I definitely prefer facebook, myspace etc...

I think that people earn money from it by affiliates possibly, promoting that company. Also, my friend put an item up on twitter saying it was on sale and someone directly contacted him saying he was interested, then he sold it. Twitter helps your website get unique visitors as when you tweet something visitors see that tweet and follow the link. At least 12 people go to my link each time when I tweet something off my site. Also, there are Re-tweet accounts they make like guestbook. All you do is message what you want him to say in his Re-Tweet and all 5,000 followers will see it ( a lot of the time click it) and so you receive traffic One way to look at it

You make a great point. Twitter is for socializing. But, people buy from people they know, like, and trust.

Using twitter is a fantastic way to build relationships. While you are building those relationships people grow to know you, like you and trust you.

So, if you make a recommendation people are willing to take a look at that recommendation.

But, most of the people that are talking about making thousands of dollars on twitter are using hype.

That is all it is, plain and simple.

You can make great money using twitter, but it depends on building relationships and using the platform for what it was meant to be used for.

The people that claim to automate the entire process and make thousands upon thousands of dollars are full of crap.

And if they are making money they are just spamming.

The platform is not about making money, it is about building relationships.

And the results of building relationships... equals making money in the long run.

So, yes twitter can be used to make thousands of dollars. But, I think people are getting a misconception on how they should use it to do that.

    Talk soon,
