working at my computer can get annoying....

Sometimes I just find that when I'm working at my computer it can get so annoying. Like it seems like:

1) My music tends to end up sucking
2) My coffee always runs out
3) I constantly have to go to the bathroom
4) Computer starts having issues
5) it's either too hot or too cold in my room
6) I get sleepy and feel like I need a nap

Like I don't get it. Hard to get anything done sometimes.

It's funny how your mentioning this given that I just posted over in WllR's thread about what to change this year. And I put that I wanted to make everything in my office as comfortable as possible!

My advice is to not take your discomfort lightly. The more comfortable you are when working, the more focused, creative, and productive you can be... which of course can lead to dollar signs!

Based off the things you've mentioned:

1.) Have you tried Pandora or Sky.fm?

2.) Take your laptop to Starbucks? lol

3.) If you're constantly going to the bathroom, that could be due to drinking a lot of coffee or water (of course the water is fine).

4.) I hear you about computer issues! The one thing I've learned to do is to take time away from IM, and focus some of my time on a particular day to do whatever necessary maintenance needed on my PC. This has made it where both of my computers are lightning fast, no freezing, no errors, etc. Also, having cable internet goes a loooonnnngggg way!

5.) Psychologists have said that a comfortable temperature in your work environment will help with productivity. So, I would take the time and try and figure out how to get a comfortable temperature. Also, if you can afford it, I recommend getting a quiet air purifier. Clean air also helps.

6.) If you get sleepy a lot, well, the solution to that is pretty simple.

    Hope that helps.

LOL, been there , done that, set yourself a schedule, dont go surfing, dont get distracted, know exactly what you are sitting down to do, do it, close your laptop, walk away. Are you going it alone , are you involved in a coaching programme, ?????, Have a plan, put a strategy behind that plan, back that up with a schedule of MARKETING, and stick to it

  • I often tune to my favorite radio station while working. I appreciate the background chatter so it doesn't feel so lonely.

Best way is to just set small blocks when you work. Split every hour with 45 minutes of work and 15 minutes of doing whatever; or strike a balance that suits you.

Best thing to do in the 15 minutes or so is get away from the computer.

Eat carbs, stretch, leave your mind blank for a couple of minutes...
and then become a productivity machine, or die in the attempt! It's worth it baby.

Yeah, I have to agree with some of the posts above.

    1. Keep your PC maintained. If you have to reload everything and start from scratch, do it.
    2. Figure out what your ideal temp in your work area is and stay with with.
    3. Take a 10-15 min break every hour. Get up, walk around, take your bathroom break, etc. This is a big one for me and really makes a difference.

I use an app on Spotify called Soundrop. I tune into the 'genre' I want (..in my case Drum n Bass) - and let everyone else pick my music. It increases productivity like you wouldn't believe, taking the decision making away lol

Aside from that, incense chills the environment out nicely, I like that. My work space is pretty zen

Then its time to buy a planner. Your "work day" in front of the computer needs to be planned out.

For example, after a day of work (gasp! yes I don't do IM full-time, just for supplemental income) I always chill and relax before I jump into my various projects. Sometimes this can take upwards of an hour, but the benefits of such are so tremendous you wouldn't believe.

I have a planner with my daily objectives. Source new promo codes for my list, rewrite several articles for clients as requested, complete several adult header images, etc, etc.

I make it a point to write at the end of each days goals... #X) Crack open that beer fridge and enjoy a nice brewksi.

Working at my computer is never annoying. Why? Because work and play are definitely separated. I never get annoyed playing on the internet, and when I'm working I'm focused on completing several objectives.

    Just MFO.

I hit the same wall sometimes. One thing that helps me is to go for a walk and clear out my mind. Also I try to have some Zig Ziglar or the like on to keep me focused. It helps me a ton. Maybe thats just me. As mentioned above I also have times and actions to do in that frame. It was tough to start, but got easier as I went along

You need to JOIN GYM my friend.
Have a good workout daily and limit your work time in front of desktop to minimum.

    Here is a tip:

If you have productive time on PC about 3hrs a day, and all other time is spent
just browsing and learning and reading.. then limit your pc time to 3hrs a day max,
and 1hr in the evening for reading/browsing/learning...

This way you will get more done in less time, and your body will love outside walk,
and fresh air Please note i am not suggesting or implying that you are spending
time on PC but not working productive.. i just want you to compress the time spent
to few hours.. and focus on often breaks off PC. And then increase time on PC for only
for productive work with regular breaks and rewards off-the-desktop-screen.

    Wishing you best 2013!

Don't play any music in the background. Stay focused.

Unless you are staying up really late and working and in need of coffee to keep you awake, instead of coffee, get a big bottle of water. This gives you energy too believe it or not.

Don't drink too much. This should not be a problem. If you have to go, then go.

I used to have that too till I decided to get a new laptop. Maybe you should get it fixed or buy a new one.

Not making any sense to me.
