Default If You Have a Group on Squidoo Consider Yourself Lucky

Because Squidoo just said, "As of right now, no new Groups can be created."

Group pages are powerful and my business partner Lewis Smile conducted a little study and found that group pages almost always outranked regular lenses for the same keyword.

If you started a Group on Squidoo, keep it! Do not delete it because you'll never be able to rebuild it. I'm not sure of the logistics but I'm checking to see if the groups can be sold like lenses. They might be some hot VRE now that they're no longer allowed.

Here's what Squidoo says about those who own groups: "Some time before June 1 2009, we’re going to choose up to 100 of the very BEST groups on Squidoo and unlock a special tool just for them. These groups will fit a list of our criteria and be nominated by SquidStaff and our Angels. At the same time, we won’t be shy about locking spam or junk or abandoned Groups over the next few months. So make sure yours don’t get mistaken for such."

So clean up your groups, get the wax out and make them shiny and beautiful!

Some of the tips Squidoo passed on that are great:

1.) Make sure your Headquarters looks nice.

2.) Clean out the garbage. If you see lenses that are not relevant to your group in your group, kick 'em out.

3.) Use the Featured modules - lenses and lensmasters - to showcase your group members.

4.) update it.

5.) Check the lenses you let into your group because if they're spam, YOUR GROUP will get locked down. ACK!

Just a heads up - you have a little bit of time to get things in order but not much!
Tiff

Thanks Tiffany

i don't have a group but that just made me think about the existing groups and how joining one now that your lens is a good fit with would be a good move. The existing groups are likely going to experience radical growth and should become all the more worthy of belonging to.

Time will tell i guess.

Cheers

I need to check this out. I created 4 groups 3 weeks ago. Only have about 7 or 8 members in each group.

Thanks for the heads up

Thanks for the information. I created a group on squidoo about a couple of months ago and never finished it. I was thinking about deleting the group but after reading this I changed my mind.

Here it is: Making Groups Great: Do you have what what it takes? [SquidU Review]

If you have a group or two that you really can't be bothered with, then why not offer it to someone else to look after. There's bound to be someone willing to give it the love and care that it needs (especially now).

I'm bummed. I had a group planned for that project that I can't quite get to. I guess I can understand that Squidoo realized there are a lot of junk groups... course there are a lot of junk lenses too and I can't see them changing that any time soon.

I agree though, if you have a group, clean it up and make it adhere to guidelines or sell it to someone who will.

Interestingly, since that notice I've had a lot more join requests for the 2 groups I created. People are maybe joining existing groups instead of creating yet another one of their own.

I missed this email...

Did they give any reasoning?

Remember to put something useful here...

Here's the link again: SquidU Review Blog Archive Making Groups Great: Do you have what what it takes?

They don't really give a reason, just the usual PC verbiage like, "To help set the foundation for even better interactions between lensmasters on Squidoo, and to align with the new quality assurance programs we’re putting in place going forward, we’re making a few changes to SquidooGroups."

Squidoo groups often rank higher than lenses. They hold weight in Google so maybe it has to do with spam groups being created to rank high or something.

Hmm, this made me really think more about squidoo and should I really continue it. Thanks for the notice Tiffany.

Seems I got in on time. I just created a group on Squidoo on 6th April but its true that having a group is the way to go.

I wrote half a dozen lenses on my own careers/ job finding topics then put them into a group called: Job Winning Help Headquarters

I then went to the guest books of related lenses and invited them to join. There is now 18 lenses in this group (at 13th April) and when I just checked in HQ there a re two more waitng for approval.

The unfinished group I started on another topic (scotch whisky) is now a priority!
