Whats the best way to do article marketing?

I'm wondering what the best way to do article marketing is. Also what are the best directories to submit articles to?

I've heard that its best to have it on your site indexed by google first.

Also I've heard that its good to have your article bookmarked by a lot of the social bookmarking sites.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mahalo,
Antonio

P.S. my business is a locally based business.

If you insist on doing article marketing, then I suggest registering for an Ezinearticles account. If you are doing promotions for a local based business, then I suggest setting a fan page on Facebook and promote that

    1) Get Unique , interesting and peer reviewed article written and revised and edited to get it published in one of the top article directory that we know is:
ezinearticles and manually with a nice fine touch.

    2) You can view this thread which is going on here on WF:

and see the explanation by alexa, which is really helpful in this topic.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Hubpages and ezinearticles for starters.

Put up a lot of quality articles with your link in the signature and they should get published.

Once published be sure to backlink the articles so that they get a little more juice.

When it comes to article marketing just go read all of Alexa's posts, she's the queen of article marketing. Or maybe the queen of the forum: View Profile: Alexa Smith

If an article originates on my site can I post it to numerous article directories without it being seen as duplicate content?

      Yes.

Syndicated content is not duplicate content. The differences between the two are explained in this post and this little article.

There's no real point in using "numerous" article directories, though. And very little extra benefit (if any at all). Ezine Articles is probably all you need. (If you want to use a second one too, maybe try GoArticles?)

      1. Write articles that other people want to publish and share with their already targeted traffic.

      2. Always publish them and have them indexed on your own site first - don't give an article directory (or anyone else) the initial indexation-rights to content not previously published.

      3. Get your articles re-published as widely as possible in places that already have the traffic you want (an article directory is a stepping-stone toward doing this, and has no other purpose at all, so don't try to use it/them for mass backlinks, nor for customer traffic, because those are both potentially expensive mistakes that can actually damage your business). Article marketing isn't about putting articles only on your site and then finding people to come along and read them: it's about taking your articles to where the people you want to attract are already looking (they're not looking in article directories, and you wouldn't want them to be doing that. If they're looking in Google, you need them to find your site, not an article directory copy of an article. Fortunately, that's easy to arrange). It isn't about how many articles you have: it's about who reads them.

      4. Never spin anything.

      5. Understand really clearly how article directories work and why it would be such a big mistake to try to get customer traffic from them.

      And good luck!
