if you have your own website, is there a way to get paid for every visitor? or do they have to actually click an ad to get paid?

    I don't think you will get paid on each visitor as it depends on what action they take on your site. For example, they might check out your adsense ads or purchase something through your Amazon links or take action on CPA offers. I hear content locking can be good on certain sites.

    So not everyone will take action on your site. Some will merely be surfing from one site to another.

    The secret is to monitor your traffic and see what monetization method works for your site.

    Yes there is. It is called CPM advertising, which stands for cost per thousand (M being the Roman numeral for thousand). There are networks you can join which will display ads on your pages and pay you per thousand impressions.

    You won't earn much though.

      Your right Martin about CPM advertising but it's not worth the effort in my opinion. I joined adhitz last year and even though people were viewing my ads, I've apparently made zero amount according to them. It's a big headache.

    Yes if you try to monetize your website with PPC.
    However, there's lot other way you can learn first then try to monetize your site.
    - Affiliate marketing
    - Contextual Ads
    - Direct selling products
    etc

    As mentioned above: There's this method called CPM (Cost Per Impression), where the advertising network pays you a fixed amount of $$$ per 1000 unique viewers that go to your site and see the ads displayed on your site. Yeah, the poster above's also right: You won't earn that much from this. However:

    Aside from CPC (Cost Per Click), you can check out CPA (Cost Per Action), since there are a lot of advertisers who'll gladly pay a fixed amount of $$$ for each qualified viewer who enters his or her ZIP or email in their ad forms via the CPA ads on your site. These CPA ads mostly offer rewards and incentives that your viewers can get just by filling out the CPA ad forms with their emails or ZIPs. What you can do now, if you like, is:

    Let me guess, you don't have a website yet, you are just researching on this topic.

    Okay when you have a website, you need content to bring people to your site.

    Then when people come to your site they have to take an action. Say click on an adsense ad or click on affiliate link. You will make money from that conversation.

    Say you get 100 people to your site and 3 people click on adsense. Your conversation rate for click is 3%. You earn say $1. So with 100 visitors, your conversation rate is 3% and earning is $1.

    Do the math and see how many visitors you will need for your desired income. Also the conversation rate can go up and down so you have to optimize your ads/offer.

    Again the type of market and the type of audience will determine your earnings. In tech/gaming blogs, there are lots of visitors but very low earnings. Other hand in mortgage or insurance market there maybe less users but a better payout level.

    You are not paid at the basis of each visitors, but you would be paid on the basis of clicks.

    For example:

    If your site receives 100 visitors today, then you may get 5 click, normally the click rate would be $0.50 to $2 depending on the niche, so this is the earning for you.

    Of course they must have to click on an add to get paid. Most of the online advertising farm has the same rules and you will earn only after getting clicks.

    There are ways to make money from popup ads per impression but it doesnt make a very good user experience.

    There are few programs like adsense and the likes that you can insert into your site and you make money when your visitors click on the ads.
