Creating Interview Products - Advice needed

Hey all,

I'm looking to create an information product by interviewing an expert in a specific niche (Non-IM).

I've got a couple of questions and I'd appreciate any advice on how to go about it....

1. Assuming I've got a blog in the niche, but no list, and no significant traffic, what benefits can I offer the expert if they agree to do the interview?

2. Is there a way to set up a revenue split product while still having affiliates? For example, can I offer the expert 50% of the product profits? If so what payment processor can I use that will not only allow affiliates to promote the product, but also be able to split the profits on each sale automatically into our accounts?

3. I'd like to offer the expert the benefit of getting new subscribers when people purchase my product. Does Aweber have the ability to automatically add people to both my list and the expert's? If not, what would be a good way of setting up a system so that people who purchase the product opt in to both my list as well as the Expert's list?

4. I've heard that people offer full rights to the experts when creating interview products. Assuming I want to list the product on Clickbank, how can I make sure that the product doesn't lose value by having the Expert simply give away copies of the product to their existing list?

5. Finally, I'd really like to leverage the expert's existing list to generate traffic to the final product. How can I entice them to mail their list about the product? Especially if they have full rights, wouldn't they simply choose to package the product and host their own sales page?

Please share any advice or previous experience you have...

Thank you Warriors!

Mark

    1. Experts usually have some ego. A lot of times they'll agree just because they like being interviewed...unless they're famous (ex. professional athlete, musician, tv star, etc.)

    2. ClickBank - create a Joint Venture

    3. I wouldn't even mention this to the expert. Sounds like you're trying to give him too much. You don't need to give him free publicity, split revenues, and give him all your leads.

    4. Why would you let them distribute your product? I wouldn't even consider letting someone do that!

    5. Same as #4, don't let them distribute the product. Problem solved!

      Thanks XanBarksdale!

What would be your recommendation for creating these?

Would you offer the split revenue right away, or would you just try to coax them into the interview by playing to their ego?

It sounds like you're saying that just being interviewed and sharing their name, site and products will be enough in getting them to do the interview, and I don't need to worry about offering them leads or maybe even having to split the revenues??

Ive interviewed two experts so far, and shared those interviews freely on my site. The strategy is simple - build awesome content that will help drive traffic to my site.

At the end of each interview, I let the expert do his little self promo bit. Its an easy exchange.

Almost definitely the expert will expect a copy of the interview.

Most experts will want to give it away for free to their lists or customers as a bonus or a freebie... and not sell it (they will usually have bigger, better projects they're working on to sell).

It doesn't stop you selling it, or even you and the expert selling it.

I remember when I was interviewed by Terry Telford a few years ago, I gave it away to my list for free... and he sold it successfully.

    How?

We created our own graphics for the interview and labled it differently with a different name...

You just have to discuss your plans and what you intend to do with it, and also not be shy of asking the expert his/her plans and what they intend to do with it, and make sure that you don't tread on each other's toes.

    It usually works out fine.

There's nothing at all to stop you from saying to the expert:

"I'll plan on selling it to all else, but will create a free download page/link for your subscribers, where they don't have to opt in to get it."

That saves the expert some time, and there's nothing from stopping you from intelligently monetizing your download page or even offering another offer on it, to get that traffic onto your own mailing list.

Hope that gives you some useful insight.

      Thanks Tahir,

That's a great idea... Hosting the interview for them, and then just have a separate opt-in on the page to capture their traffic..

Also, prehaps creating a member only post, and getting them to sign up to view the interview could work as well?

The expert is taking their time to speak with you and provide you with the content to create a product. I would not worry too much about them having a copy of it. I have done interviews and have always given a copy to them.

Think about it, they are very busy generally and appreciate being able to have instant content like this.

You could do a revenue split. Clickbank, Warrior+, JV Zoo, Rapid Action Profits and others allow this. I have never done it, I have always done it on my own but offered 100% on the Front End to get affiliates on board. I monetized by having a backend offer where I was making money.

    Hope this helps.
