WSO Buyer (and affiliate) Fraud?

Hey Warriors, I'm looking for some input and feedback here for those who have experienced this with WSO sales and affiliates....

Within the past 24 hours, I've had two buyers from one of my recent WSO's file disputes with Paypal, claiming that the purchases were unauthorized. Both buyers have indicated that they did not make the purchase and have never heard of a WSO or Warrior Forum. Upon further investigation, both WSO sales came from the same affiliate in W+. I can only assume that these buyers' Paypal accounts have been compromised and that the affiliate is directly involved? Obviously, I've taken care of these issues within Paypal, removed the affiliate in W+ and notified W+ support, etc.. However, I'm just curious how common this sort of thing is and if any other Warriors have experienced this.

Please note: To ensure forum compliance, I have not posted details here such as info about the buyers, offending affiliate, WSO, etc.. Please do the same when you comment. Lets keep the mods happy

Happened to me also. Try to get a refund through the system first for the commission you paid. That will probably fail. They probably already cleared their Paypal account out. Then report that affiliate right away to the platform you are using. Just give refunds to the chargebacks. No point in even trying to fight it. You won't win.

Thanks, Suzanne. Yes, I immediately refunded the two buyers and notified W+ about the affiliate. I def need to screen my WSO affiliates a little better from now on, I guess. Kinda surprising, really.

Don't see where you can put W+ affiliates on delayed payment, but the crooks I had to deal with were JVZoo. I'm not working with affiliates any longer, but if I were, they would ALL go on delayed payments and only get paid when there's no longer a risk of Paypal disputes. You can set the payments at JVZoo to delayed payment.

Well that is why I only works with reputed Affiliates.... Those who have good name and don't do these kind of BS.... I use to speak with them all the way during any of mine WSO launch and use to check if there is anything disturbing any affiliate?... Bottom Line, don't approve every affiliate, just see his previous history.... If that looks demanding to you, approve him/her.... Cheers

I support this. I think before you accept anyone to promote your product, do some research about them first like post count, warrior history and stuff.

Over the last several days I've had affiliate requests from 3 Warriors. I went and the first thing I look at is post count. All of these Warriors had a post count of ZERO so I immediately denied their affiliate request.

NOTE TO NEW WARRIORS: If you are serious and honest about promoting WSO offers then may I suggest you have at least 50 - 100 legitimate posts that offer something before making your request. This will save us both a lot of time!

Thanks, Gengis. I'm sorry to hear it happened to you, too. I am glad to see your WSO is going so well, though. Good product. Congrats!

Yep, I've had 6 new aff requests today - all new Warriors that just joined today so I assume when you get 1 scammer affiliate, you start to get a bunch more requesting. Ugh. Time to clean house with affiliates and screen, screen, screen. :/

It could very well be the same person creating multiple accounts and right away going to try and get approval as an affiliate for WSO's.

My guess is they have several compromised PayPal accounts and try to sign up as an affiliate and cross purchase. Then gain the affiliate commissions and try to move the money to a PayPal account they have control of and directly withdraw it from a PayPal debit card.

That's the only thing I could see them doing to gain anything besides just a free product. But they would have to be lightening fast to get any decent size cash because PayPal would close their account they are dumping the money into and withdrawing.

I also suspect they do not care about getting caught as they probably do other things with banks like Kiting checks between accounts, etc...

I don't care if it is my mom .. she's not getting paid until everything has cleared. Nothing personal .. just business.

Affiliate program doesn't offer delayed option. I don't use them.

I don't do WSOs (at least not yet) so I was always curious as to why one might deny an affiliate, as it seemed to be relatively risk-free.

I guess this explains it, that's for sure. Scammers always ruin everything for the rest of us.

That's why having an active community like this one is so important. It allows us to warn each other of an increase in suspicious activities and be on the lookout for it.

This community is also a valuable asset because scammers could in fact purchase your product, refund the purchase and then rip off your product entirely. Luckily this community is so active and recognizes almost all of these situations when purchasing products for themselves and can tell when someone has ripped off a product of someone else mostly because they have seen it somewhere else before and alert others quickly.

This unfortunately happens with any network that uses some form of "adaptive payments"...

I know many have said this already - but it really comes down to screening affiliates. I know folks have mentioned that they look for high post counts and what not.

Here's another tip I use and it helps get the "serious" affiliates. Simply send them a PM and tell them you want to approve them you just need a little info about how they intend to promote the product.

You'd be surprised how many folks won't even bother to respond... But the ones that do you can usually be confident in them (according to their answers of course). This also helps to get those affiliate who can send a lot of sales but don't spend much time on the forum.

Sounds like you did a good job sniffing it out quickly and taking the appropriate measures.

    Reason 1) fraud
    Reason 2) conversions

If you mass approve a lot of affiliates and they send a bunch of junk traffic and drive your conversions down then the chance of getting more affiliates to promote the product goes down significantly.

It does seem counterproductive, but when it comes to affiliates you want "quality" over quantity. One or two of the "right" affiliates can easily get you WSOTD.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Coby
