Seems your a complete newbie....(I'm a newbie lol)
    Here's the method.
    GO to clickbank marketplace
    ClickBank Marketplace - ClickBank
In any category(which you like most) select a profitable product which pays at least $20 per sale for affiliates and the product must have a gravity(which means product sells well) of more than 40%... This is how I actually find niches to promote.

    Hope this Helps.

That depends on you. Do you have something that you love or are just you looking for something to make money. If you are an expert at something that could be your niche. If you just want to start at the beginning, do the research in Clickbank, Google, Amazon and see what's selling.

    1. What your strengths are

    2. What you love

    3. What the market will pay for (i.e. what is already selling)

I have to agree with Jason, it by far will be the easiest to get done if your all three of these, but it's not impossible to venture into other niches.

I think a bit differently about niches... I try to find a product in high demand, doesn't necessarily have to interest me, but also sells well.

I'd compare hops to purchases (if your using clickbank). Find out the ratio.

Sometimes if the product is a great seller and very popular its even worth it to build a site/blog/content around the niche.

I know this sounds backwards, but just my .02 cents.

go to magazines.com, if there is a magazine for it there is more than likely a market for it,

of course you will want to use proper keyword research to see if that market is going to be a profitable one.

Find something I like doing and then do keyword research to see if it's viable. If not, rinse and repeat.

Think about things you're interested in - hobbies, skills etc
Go to magazines.com and browse the listings
Go to Amazon.com and look up best selling books
Watch the news or read a newspaper and see what's topical
Use Google Trends to see what people are searching for
Browse Clickbank and see what's hot

Once you have found a niche be sure to make sure people spend money in it - you can do that by finding products at CB, amazon and magazines.com.

    Good luck!

It depends on the person. People usually choose their favourite niches or the most popular niches.

    I randomly select one.

A good way to do this is to pick the first thing that pops into your head. It may sound stupid but this method has managed to help me find some really good niches
