Real Time Google Analytics Helps You Pinpoint Profits

Hi Warriors!

I just recently found the Real time analytics area in my Analytics account. Ermahgerd! Why didn't you guys tell me about this sooner?

First I was just fascinated at watching real live traffic come into my blog. It felt like I was at one of those two way mirrors seeing someone when they couldn't see me. LOL!

But now, I like to use the tool, rather than just sit there wasting time with it.

1. Use it to see what your subscribers think is hot.

I sent out an email today with FIVE items in it. I clicked send in Aweber and instantly went to Real Time Analytics just to watch what happened.

I was amused to see which one the majority went to first. It wasn't #1 on the list. In fact, it was the LAST item on my list.

Not anything that sold to them, but the second most popular item WAS promoting something. This post and the one not selling were neck in neck at times. So they basically had an equal appeal, but one slightly dominated the other.

Then...I used it in a second way.

2. Use it to track their movement elsewhere on your site.

I could see them leave that 5th item and move on to the popular posts that were in my sidebar titled "Popular Posts."

I am not one of those who does well with stats reports. I just suck at it. But the real time live look is so much easier for me to absorb and see how it can help - because I can repeat certain things strategy-wise.

I know what gets people TO my blog, what they consume first, and how they prioritize the content. Which items in that sidebar list did they flock to - I loved seeing that.

To me, this is helpful because there are tons of lurkers on a site. So the real time analytics almost "speaks" to me when they don't, telling me what they value and why they follow me.

If you haven't tried it, log into your Google Analytics account and click Home instead of Standard Reporting. Then click Real Time and then Overview. You can see the seconds tick by (and minutes) of how long they're there, who's new or returning, what keyword they landed with, where they leave and go to next, and where they're from.

Amazing to me

Tiff

Yes it's a cool tool, there are other instant message tools that will ping you when someone is on the site and you can try to bring up an instant message. Follow the path the same, etc. There are sites that can track mouse movements and patterns and eye movements I have been told like heat maps as well.
