amazon lots of clicks but no sales?

I have been working on an amazon review site for the past few months, and in the last month or so I have started to see some steady traffic. I get a lot of clicks through to amazon, but have yet to see a sale.

I decided to do a test a week ago, and had my brother make a purchase through one of my links. To my surprise I didn't get paid. I checked the link he went through and my Id was there at the end so I don't know what happened? I also checked the excluded products and what he bought wasn't listed. Now, I'm worried there might be something wrong with my links. Any help? I thought since my affiliate id was there I would be fine, but that seems to not be the case.

Something is wrong with your link or website.

Do the products say available at external web site? If they do then you will not get commission.

You also want to make sure that all your link include your affiliate id on "yourid"-20 in them somewhere.

If you're seeing clicks in your Amazon stats then your links are most likely fine. I don't know what to suggest aside from contacting Amazon directly.

As far as traffic, what do you consider to be steady? You may go through stages of getting 100 clicks and 0 sales, and stages of 100 clicks and 10 sales.

Does your brother live with you? Amazon don't give commision on orders made by friends or family because they want you to refer new customers to them.

How many clicks have you had in total? If clicks are appearing in your report then the links should be functioning OK. What sort of call to action are you using on your site? In-text links are known to convert the best.

I get around 100 visits with around 20 clicks for the past month or so

I checked my links and My ID is there in that form, but where do I look for the external site thing?

He lives with me, that might be the problem, and just under 1000 clicks right now. All my links are text, I don't use any widgets or stuff like that, it looks to pushy to me.

Not even REMOTELY enough data to draw any conclusions from. I tell my clients to refrain from drawing any conclusions until they are getting 100 clicks PER DAY. It's entirely possible to go trough 100, 200, maybe even 300 clicks without a sale before the law of averages catches up.

sorry we cross publishing the post ...at the same time ... to verify if it's an external site selling the product go to amazon via your product and look if they have a buy now button or if is written " this item is sold by ..." I think tha's the way to verify , not sure do , never happend to me till now.

You're not really getting enough clicks to tell anything. If your brother ordered something sent to your address than you won't get a commission. I think they might cross reference for same last name as well.

Sounds like you might have a niche that isn't converting very well or perhaps your site isn't pre-selling the products you are linking to enough. However, it is Amazon so you'll typically see a few random product sales regardless. Do you get 20 clicks per day or per month?

As others have said, as long as your ID is in the link, and it's not to an excluded product, and the buyer isn't friend / family, you should be ok (as far as I know!).

If you want to double check that your links are OK, there's a Link Checker under the Links & Banners section of the Amazon Associates site - as far as I can see, it doesn't do anything more sophisticated than check that your ID is in the link you give it, but it beats checking them by hand.

it could be a number of reasons, it could be traffic source, it could be what you are promoting people aren't interested in buying. we would need more info on the process you are using to drive traffic what page you are sending them to and your whole overall process to be able to effectively diagnose the problem and offer a solution.

Much like a car, you can't just go up to a mechanic and say why isn't my car working. they would have to diagnose from a process of elimination.

You have the newbie sickness, i have had dozens of amazon sites in the past and i can tell you that the conversion rate even with click throughs is about
      3-6% at best.

Like you i was seeing 100's of clicks but no purchases when i started and thought something was wrong - this is normal. Check out the Amazon forums and you will find loads of posts just like this one where newbies think something is wrong when it's not.

If your links are sound(with your correct id) and the person ordering does not live at your address everything is ok

      Good luck

In my personal experience AMazon has been the same to me so i left it.I guess its also because of the large variety and also the fact that they products in almost all known sub niches.

20 clicks is not nearly enough to come to any conclusions. Just keep at it. Not much else to say, unfortunately.

You better have a discussion with amazon.

Did your brother buy an item directly from your computer?
If yes, that might not scale through.

    For amazon to work:

    1. You need to have targeted traffic because just general traffic and click can not transform to sales.
    2. Your content review have to be descriptive and compelling in a selling way.
    3. Your video must be it.

I had the same problem some time ago, I was generating around 120 to 180 clicks per day and zero sales with Amazon. But then I had months where sales were good and months where sales were really bad regardless of how many clicks. As fitnessmaster suggests you might be in a niche that doesn't convert very well, but keep persevering and increasing traffic, I'm sure the sales will come through more steadily in the future. Best of luck.

Mine is also having this problem now on Amazon. I have this camera lens niche site producing 1-80 clicks per day since I made a major transformation of my site turning it to an Amazon product niche site. The traffic source is Google which is an organic and it is on the No. 1 search results for its main keyword (canon slr lens) and does not affected by the algo updates that targeted EMD sites. Maybe the number of clicks are low but I had a good successful sales from August-November with a 5-6% conversion ratio using the Web services REST link type. Sometimes even the site gets 1 click in a day, it still manage to convert at least 2 sales worth thousand of dollars. I had no zero sales every month from August-November with payment by check issued already to me.

Now, from December which is a shopping season up until this day there's a steady good number of clicks everyday but sadly no conversions that made though. Compared to the previous months of 2012, I can say that December-January are much higher based on the number of clicks. This bothered me so much and thinking if it is still worth to use Amazon affiliate to monetize my site. I also read somewhere that some Amazon affiliates experiencing this kind of thing recently. I'm sure of my ID is correct and mine as i checked it already on my settings and there's no any product link problem from my site. I want to hear from others here on WF if they still converting on their Amazon niche sites. Thank you.

As for the traffic, I think you can think up more ways to drive traffic.
And you can contact the Amazon serivce to check the payment link for you.

Well there must be something wrong with my situation .
When I put up my review site I was getting about 1-2 orders a day for the first 5 days then it suddenly stopped.
Now wait for this ...today I had over 5000 clicks and no sales. i had been working on the site and I feel the clicks may be inflated but my tracking Id actually says 8000 clicks .....and not one sale?????????
    i am baffled?

Check your server logs. Did you really have that much traffic?

No sales for over six weeks now?

      About to give up now

Seems like lots of the same problems with other affiliates.

      • Either you're terribly unlucky or there's something wrong. Let it go upto 1000 clicks then draw some conclusion, such as traffic from the wrong country? Fake Clicks?

Try raising your traffic to the site for a better picture of conversions. Also, double check your amazon id or even create an alternate one and try a small test sale by a friend e.t.c. Also, more and products are becoming 'excluded', so double check that as well.

I also did a test order on the Amazon UK site and it came through .Unfortunately it is the Amazon US site that is getting all the clicks but I cannot order through them as I live in the UK.
My site is a subdomain and maybe it is registering clicks from the main domain ... Will leave the sites for a day or so and see what happens .It was just so exciting the way I was getting 1.-2 orders a day and I got so excited and so built up the site more with other products and boom everything stopped.

If you get 20 clicks per month, try to scale until you will get 20 clicks per day. Also it would be good to focus on the amount of articles for different products. Good performing sites (in my experience) need a minimum of 50 articles...

I have decided to add an article to each product . I am using an Amasite plug in that gathers info from Amazon like image ,product details ,reviews etc .
I think I am going to build another site using articles and content linking and see how that goes .
