The ugly truth is that maybe 1% of the GOOD hand registered names are sold for a decent amount of money. Since about 1% of all hand registered names are good (the rest is crappy), it's really hard nowadays to sell handregged domains. You'll need experience AND luck.

If they are the domains in your sig you should ask for a refund if the registrar has a grace delete period. You will never sell those at any price.

Depending on what you mean by "decent".

I've been buying and selling them for 4 years, as a little sideline. I do so a little differently from most of the domainers here, I think. I never pay more than reg-fee for a domain. I aim to sell them for around $50-$150, but sometimes take much less. I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've got more than $250 for one. But it's a profitable and enjoyable sideline, though I admit I've also had my share of accidents and have bought more than I've sold!

Today if anyone purchase a domain for $7.99 using GoDaddy coupon
and sale the domain for $75.00, that's 838.67% difference.

In my book, that's more than "decent".
By the way AlexaSmith, I do the same and love the monthly return. Volume anyone..?

I've also checked the domains in your signature. The acne name has some value, but the rest of the domains are worth zero to regfee. Ask a refund if possible.

I know some folks with over 10,000 domain names!!! lol it's crazy to have to keep up with ALL those accounts not sure if this would be profitable enough to get into but I myself have 12 domain names and looking for good ones often but even those are hard to keep track of sometimes.. lol

I was looking into domain flipping awhile back and I made one Wordpress website to flip. I didn't work on the website at all so there was practically no traffic but it had a few posts and the theme was nice. I advertised it pretty much everywhere except for Flippa and I didn't get any buyers (big surprise).

I always found domain flipping interesting. My only attempt at domain flipping failed but maybe I will try again sometime soon.

I bought a LLLLL.net domain for like$16 on Jan 8. I just sold it on Thursday for $350!!!! probably the easiest most fulfilling way to utilitze my IM skills.

I'm sure I could have gotten more but there's very few ways to make that kind of a ROI without investing a lot of money and time. I probably spent 10 hours trying to sell it and I didn't use flippa or any auction sites.

I know a lot of my friends making money by selling domains. It will be better if you can build small niche websites using your domains and then sell them. It can increase your earning.

I did it for a spell.

I'd go to godaddy.com and enter in a domain that was obviously taken, like computer.com. Then I'd look to the right side of the screen where they try to drain you for premium domain names.

I'd then take one of those premium domain names that they just tried to sell me for $1001 and I'd search for the same one but with a different extension.

For example, I'd search computer.com and they'd try to sell some super expensive domain like computertech.com for $3000, I would then search for computertech.net or .org and 9 times out of ten it would be their regular domain name price. So I saved $2990 by simply changing the extension.

I'd then have a super awesome domain name that I could flip! Obviously the above is just an example.

I don't think that would work, otherwise you would be doing it.

Also asking prices are not always right price indicators for what a domain could be really sell for

I think you could try one mini site (although not needed after all) and put a link to your company since it is the same niche, and others could try to sell them although not sure they will sell. And if you opt to build a mini site to put a link to your company, the mini site, according to my understanding, shouldn't use the same web hosting account, those that allow you to have many sites, will be a negative factor

And adsense, it's very strict, just be sure you will meet all the rules

Interesting thread I sold a domain for $3000 minus 15% commission I was just lucky I think.
Is there any courses tht tell you the best way to flip domains as I know there loads for flipping sites but just flipping domains would be a great course

Most people try to get the largest possible amount for their domains, which aren't established, and not even that good of a name. You just got to remember that a domain can sometimes cost less than $9 dollars so try and sell your domains for around $60-$100 dollars, and you will receive a nice profit. If your domain name isn't good and isn't established then you shouldn't try to sell it for thousands.

Now, I have seen some dumb domain names go for a lot on Flippa, so you may want to try there too.

I've just started dumping some domains I held
for close to 10 years by not renewing the
registrations. Hard to say goodbye but you
have to know when to hold'em and know when
to walk away. I'm no expert in that department
so I just walk away. Hopefully I won't have to

I can tell you a great story of my results with one particular domain. I purchased visitalexandriava(dot)com and had it for a couple of months. Got a call from the organization and settled to sell it for $2500.00. I feel I was lucky with it and came out on top but this is when I really looked into domaining.

Did anyone came across any scams while trying to flip a domain?
Once, three days after registering a new domain and parking it I got an email from a guy that said that wanted to buy the domain from me, but I needed to pay a $50 value test for it first. After I answered that I'll sell it for $30 instead of $300 without buying the test, he never answered back... Apparently this is a very popular scam...

I've looked into doing this before but after reading a bit I found that website flipping would be much more profitable. I think to make good profit with domains you either have to buy in bulk or get your hands on some real nice quality premium names.

I suspect this varies a lot, from person to person. I find dealing in domain-names quite profitable, but would hate to get involved in website flipping. But I have marketing skills without any real technical skills - so, it depends what suits you? The work involved in website flipping, for me, would be inconceivable. If I actually go to the time and trouble to develop a website which produces income, I certainly wouldn't want to sell it. Different courses for different horses.

I do neither, and make good profits (by my standards, anyway). I don't pay more than reg-fee for domains, and I often register only about 5 at a time, sometimes even fewer.

(I haven't checked but I suspect there may be some potential trademark/typosquatting issues with some of the names listed a few posts above. I see nothing there I'd have wanted to register, myself, but I very often feel that in such threads, and sometimes I've completely missed the point of something marketable. )

There are also more domain extensions now. The good names are always valuable, but there is just more versions people can have now before they resort to buying. Having said that, a great domain name will always sell well.

No but what about a quick way to make money with it? Just buying and selling right away. For example I buy an expired domain thats 5 years old and install wp and make it pr 1 or p2 the domain is gonna already be worth more.

I may do have some plans to do some buy and sell for my unused domains, but most of those domains I am using right now are getting traffic, and I'll keep working on them. It really depends if that domain doesn't make sense to you, better sell it or keep it to do your own "thing".

I've been selling domains for years and can tell you that it isn't the easy job many think, especially if you target at least 4 figures.
I sell dozens a years but I reinvest everything (I have 20,000 names), my portfolio's quality becomes better and when I need any domain for development I know where to get it.

If you get a domain that has traffic flow (PR rank, backlinks) then build a WP based site around it and sell it on a site like Flippa if you don't have your own clients.

It depends on the type of profit your looking for. If your looking to flip domains for $100's then just target ones with good link profiles and good authority. They are pretty easy to sell as they get picked up by SEO companies using automated programmes to find high quality expired domains. I have a list of around 7,000 at the moment. It's just a matter of working through and buying the best ones.
