Macros for wordpress automated configuration

Hi Warriors,

I create a worpress per domain per product, which means I have to install one wordpress per product ... a lof of installations, plus configuration plus setting all the plugins. And basically the configuration is pretty much the same for all of them ...so it's a waste of time, energy and sometimes you do some mistakes . SO I wonder if isn't there any tool out there that can help me with this thing.

As far as I found searching, people is using iMacros (firefox extension) and I would like to know if you guys use the same or any other stuff.

Thanks for your time and help

      Hi,

Diane1987 thanks for your suggestion. I just tried to copy the wordpress folder installation to the folder of the new domain. All the configuration, plugins , posts etc are copied, which is good. The problem is that in the configuration figures the domain of the copied wp installation. Which means when you do login you are automatically redirected to the copied wp domain
Hi iPresenceBizSolutions thanks for your reply. I've read the article and the wp plugin suggested is quite interesting, and they have a concept called migrations , to migrate one domain to another domain..although my goal is not to migrate but to duplicate, or more like export the wp configuration to another domain. But I will write them an email to know if that is possible.
I will post it once I have any update

Can you not use a cloning script like WP-Clone or Wp-backup?

You could just create the "basic" site that has all of the settings / plugins / themes that you need and create a clone file that you then just roll out onto each new domain.

I do that every time I roll out a new site... saves me a stack of time!

Is that kind of what you're looking for?

    Hi Ted,

I use Macro Express for tasks like that.

However, it depends on how often you need it to make it worthwile.

If you had only 30 or so different installations it would not make much sense, since the learning curve is quite steep and if the macro has errors then it would cause a lot of problems with unintended configurations.

But if you had like 1000 different installations it would make sense to use it.

You could also pay somebody very familiar with such a macro software to do it for you.

    Cheers

I meant to say this before, you can go to Duplicator For WordPress and duplicate it for free.

    Hi,

Thanks for all your feedback and help.
I'm trying the Duplicator plugin for Wordpress . It seems to do the exactly what I need. I'm learning how to use it.
Then I will try WP-Clone or Wp-backup to find if they fit better the purpose.
As soon as I have some results I will let you know !
About Macros, Dan Hower , You are right they can get very tricky. I've tried like a year a go and , I'm not an expert, but from time to time I had to do some changes to the macros and spent quite a few time. And now, for me,makes much more sense to use some plugin (or software) created for the purpose of duplication which considerate all the needs and problems related.
wariswar Thanks for that But I will try the plugins mention above !

Once again, fellow warriors, thanks to your help

    Hello,

I've been trying to setup the Duplicator plugin for wordpress.
So I have locally run the installer.php on my local machine, and passed all the requirements but in the moment that I execute a "Test Connection" I get the following error
    DATABASE CONNECTION FAILED!
mysqlnd cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using the old insecure authentication. Please use an administration tool to reset your password with the command SET PASSWORD = PASSWORD('your_existing_password'). This will store a new, and more secure, hash value in mysql.user. If this user is used in other scripts executed by PHP 5.2 or earlier you might need to remove the old-passwords flag from your my.cnf file

I have contacted HostGator in order to solve the problem. And the answer is
"Since this is a shared server we cannot force the new authentication. You may want to try another mysql client that allows the old authentication method so you can connect remotely. "

So, for now, I don't have a need to upgrade to a VPS so I will try to other plugins WP-Clone and Wp-backup.

    I'll post with more updates

    Hi again,

I just have installed WP-Clone and must say that is really easy and intuitive.
So I have created a wordpress with all the plugins and settings I always use. Then you go to the WP-Clone plugin and click for a backup. After the backup is generated you got a link (with the zip of all your blog content). Than you go to the new wordpress installation (that is a new wordpress with nothing on) you install the plugin. Then you go to the plugin and click Restore from the url , and you copy the previous url. You click it and in seconds is done.

    Some "problems":
Yeah you have to still do the installation in the new blog. But must say that with Fantastic is a 2 click thing so don't really take that time . The good thing with Duplicator is that you don't have to do this step, you just had to create the database.
You have to change in the Settings all the places where the "copied domain" appears. So if you change from the domain abc to efg . In the Settings of efg you will see things like email: admin at abc dot com ..so you have to change that. But at least you can do it all in this page. Definitely a nice feature for this plugin would be, before the restore, ask you about the name of the new blog, email, blog title etc

So I will keep on using this plugin because it saves me a lot of time !

If you have any doubt about it just le me know, I will try to help as much as I can.

    Thanks again !
