Effects of Webhosting location on Ranking

just wondering if you think having a webhost in canada is any worst than having a webhost in USA.

I was with hostgator for years, but for my local business switched to a canadian hosting site, but now im done with local business and back to international ranking wondering if i should switch back to HOSTGATOR or Stay with my Canadian host since its already prepaied for a year.

I am targeting people all around the world so i would guess the backlinks IP would matter more than the hosting company, just my guess.

thanks in advance

  • Seanfromvancity,

Great question here. There are differing viewpoints on this. Some say the geolocation matters, others say it does not. Definitely if you have a country specific TLD, this will affect rankings however having a .com hosted on a server that may be outside the country you are targeting is more murky. To make things more confusing, it is thought that having a website hosted on a VPN or with shared IP address also negatively impacts SEO.

Perhaps you can find some more answers here,
