Ebook Design & Formatting Question

Hey,

I do most of my business in the offline world but I've just finished writing my first ebook/sales letter (using word) as I plan on driving prospects online via offline media.

I was wondering where you guys get your e-books designed and formatted?

I'm in the process of having someone on odesk do this but he can't seem to follow instructions and it looks really poor (he has great feedback) so I'm planning on paying him some if not all of the money and just cutting my loses, it's not much anyway plus he's obviously worked hard, it's just not to a good standard.

I though I'd ask fellow warriors how they do this?. I've downloaded many ebooks and a lot of them visually look good.

    Anyone who is proficient in MS Word can do it for you. I, however, purchased a pack of 5 doc templates which I use most of the time in creating any pdf's. I even think there was a WSO a while back selling these ready made templates(can't seem to remember who was the seller,sorry).

    Just go to google, download openoffice for free, open upo your word document in open office, and at the top of the screen there is a widget that says 'PDF', hit that and it will convert your word doc into a pdf! job done, 15 secs and its free!

    I wrote the content in ms word which will then be made into a PDF. I need help adding features table coloured boxes, page numbers, tale of contents and general formatting to make it look visually good. I've graphics I want to use but I'm having trouble formatting those.

    It's basically a sales letter with good content so certain things need to stand out. I'm no use with ms or word, except for writing with it.

      For years, my only PDF generator has been OpenOffice. It has
      practically all the bells and whistles of Word but, at least to me,
      is much easier to use.

    I have used a contractor on Fiverr "brother" (that's his name on Fiverr) and was very satisfied with the results. You should ask to have the file back as a Word document also so that you can make changes to the content as it may be required. You can then use Open Office to make a pdf with the new content and using the formatting you paid for.

    Use Word or Open Office. I'd be careful using anyone on Fiverr or Odesk because you are giving them their book in digital format where they can (and some have) stolen and published people's content.

      The problem is I can't use word to it's fullest and I've not got the time or patience to learn. There's a lot of formatting in terms of text boxes, table of contents, graphics and features tables etc.

      My book is basically a sales letter given away free, there is lots of content in the report as well (48 pages). The only way they could use it is if they're selling the same service as I am.

        Word can do the Table of Contents, graphics, and all that stuff with no problem. The tables and columns you would need to convert to an image but it can be done.

    Speaking of Fiverr sellers, you might want to try a user by the name of cilok. His eBook formatting gig is outstanding and the formatting work he did for one of mine actually made me feel guilty about paying him so little. I tipped him and would definitely recommend him to anyone in need of formatting help.

    Yeah, this is the gig I ordered from him. It was honestly some of the best work I've received from Fiverr, and I use it often.
