Is it better to come from urgency or abundance?

I've always wondered about this, so I thought what the heck, I'll ask.

Essentially my question is whether or not it's better to go into IM or try to succeed in it from a situation of necessity or abundance. Most people coming here are somewhere in the middle, but a lot of the threads end up being by people on one end of the spectrum or another.

By this I mean needing to get something set up within 3 months with a low budget in order to survive, or to have a well paying job and plenty of time.

It's easy to come up with answers both ways, but I'm not sure which (or if either) is correct.

# For example, you could say that if someone has a lot of existing abundance, they don't feel the pressure to succeed more, and are more likely to just buy a thousand WSOs without taking much action because they don't need to, in contrast with the person that needs to stretch every dollar and will work extremely hard to make it work.

# On the other hand, you could say that someone with urgency probably won't succeed because they could waste all of their time on one idea, or won't have the foresight to succeed in the same timeframe as someone with abundance, and that they'll similarly slack if they're coming to IM as a last attempt.

So which is it (if either)?
#abundance #urgency

I myself was a broke college student and was desperate for money I was willing to do anything to earn a buck. What's funny is that when I first started selling click bank products, I did it with free advertising, and I ended up making about $200 a month. It is not much, but it is money for college.
It took me about 4 months to get really good at advertising until I made about $800 a month. When I started to make real good money, I got greedy and decided to splurge my money on useless marketing techniques, so when I got desperate again, I focused on the things that actually worked instead of more risky tactics.
You probably get the picture with my pattern here, I do well when I am desperate, and not as well when I am willing to splurge, so I keep my mindset to pinch every penny in my marketing efforts and to make my investment decisions as if my wife and child depends on it. Doing that helps me succeed

I kind of have a feeling that necessity forces shorter term results, but can keep you back from getting massive success that requires less of a time->results conversion, and as has already been said, more risk, but it's hard to say.

There are certain things that are conflicting common sense ideals. For example, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder", and "Out of sight, out of mind" are conflicting, and both seem right, but the latter is generally right.

Thanks for the feedback from both perspectives.

    Both...

I teach all my students to attack IM urgently but with an abundance mindset.

Urgency meaning roll your sleeves up and do whatever it takes to grind away and make things happen quickly. Pretend you need to make $X in Y days or else the world is going to end and then get it done.

But still have an abundant mindset...abundance meaning the markets, positions, models we pursue have plenty of space for new entrants and limitless potential.

    Hope that makes sense

Interesting question Robestrong and I can only answer from my point of view.

Necessity can create genius and motivation. Desperate people can do amazing, desperate things. Overcome huge obstacles. There is a great quote from Winston Churchill: If you are going through hell, keep going.

But who wants to be desperate all the time?

I have a couple of quotes I keep on the screen above my computer and I think they pretty much say what I believe. And, I'll be honest, they work. For me.

"When a human mind clearly and continually visualizes an end result, with deep emotion and concentrated intent, then the formatted energy generated is converted into its mass equivalent - ie: the result desired."

Or, more simply: The simple secret of the universe is that we create our own reality.

Or, to quote Earl Nightingale and Buddha: We become what we think about.

So, I guess, I believe there is more than enough for everyone. Laugh. Love. Live. Prosper.

Statistically, I know that students (for example) who don't use proper time management and do things at the last minute get worse grades, even though they tend to feel like "I do my best work under pressure". And overall balance, though somewhat counterintuitive, tends to be the best way to be successful in everything.

But at the same time, I've seen people fighting for something from a place of real need do some incredible things.

If you go into any profession, it's best to go in with the idea of helping other people. Zig Ziglar used to say that when you help people get what they want, you also get what you want and this is very true. I think I have something you want to see. PM me for more details as this is not yet for the eyes of the masses. I will always help where I can.

      It doesn't really matter.

What does matter is that you TAKE ACTION.

And that you take action that has a reasonable chance
of bringing you in the kinds of results that fit your goals.

That would mean having goals to begin with.

It is better to come from abundance in all aspects of life because you can study and work without pressure, you can have the best tools, you can pay others to work for you, etc. Of course abundance is always better. You can do everything without suffering when you can spend money.

It’s very hard to make money when you don't have money.

I’m not saying that urgency doesn’t have its positive side. Many times you’ll learn more and make more because you’ll accept to work hard and do many things you wouldn’t do if you were not desperate.

However, most people are desperate and they are not making money.

Despair obliges you to work hard and try hard, but if you don't have the basics, you cannot go ahead. Only a few heroes can make money without spending money.

I thinks more people succeed out of necessity. When they have their backs to the wall they know they have to take action to be successful.

Some people just do not take action and expect others to be helping them all the time. We all need help from time to time but I think you have to be responsible for your own destiny.

I second clever7 ... in a state of desperation I find focus and quality gets hurt, decision making becomes a bit blurry while you try and address the short-term need at hand.
