Hi Friends,

This is just from my own experience of niche marketing and it can have many different opinions. It is just my own viewpoint which I am sharing and you are welcome to add your own experience here.

So IMHO , if you want to target the real buyers then you have to select the niche market which is ready to spend the cash at any time. Some of the requirements of these kind of niches are:

1) First it has to be competitive market: I know many people have the basic fear of entering into competitive markets like weight loss, acne, relationships, etc. as they are becoming very competitive day by day. But believe me thats where the real money lies.

There are always many angles or sub-niches present in these kind of niches where you can dominate in SERP and can attract hordes of traffic. People have different kinds of problems in these kind of niches. Only thing is you have to identify those sub-niches which gets substantial amount of searches per month but less competitive in nature.

2) Always keep an eye on the kind of affiliate products you can sell in the market. If there are physical as well as info products are selling well at a time, then you can consider its a good market to enter. Because then you get wide chances of selling different products to your target audience.

3) Also look out for small marketers online. If they are not present and if you see only the BIG guys like Ebay,Walmart,Buy.com or Amazon then you should better be away from those niches.

4) Check out the general search terms related to particular niche markets in search engines like Google and Yahoo and look for adwords or PPC ads. If they are very few or not present then there is a red alarm for you. This means very few buyers are actually present in that market who actually buy online and thats why many marketers don't place PPC ads there.

5) Research your market well and find out whether there are any buyer keyword phrases present or not. Buyer keywords can be "{product name} reviews" , "buy {product name}", "Compare {Product 1},{Product 2}",etc.

6) Then the very important thing is you should be able to find out the product which can exactly solve the real life problems of people and you should be able to define that problem very specifically so that you can better target your audience.

7) When you select any product in your niche it should not be any latest gizmo or just a fad which can eventually fade away as the time passes and your all efforts can go in vain with the time. And your target audience should be easily approachable in your niche. This gives you easy access to reach your customers faster and with less hassles.

These are some of the points I can think of right now. There can be more and you can share your inputs here. Thanks.

    1) totally agree, anyone with skills should be shooting for markets with big upsides

    2) agree. I do physical products, but it's good to see info products in the general market too.. gives more opportunities for backend cash via autoresponder

    3) not so sure about that. there's a ton of physical product markets that haven't been tapped by the small guy (at least not small guys with skills)

    4) yup

    5) nice to have, not mandatory. you'll see this more often in markets with brand names (electronics, apparel, etc)

    6) yeah, OR - just sell what people are already buying. not every product fulfills a "need" per se

    7) Right, not gonna build a long term business on a fad or trend. However, a friend of mine made several hundred grand this fall selling Obama merchandise. Business completely died by end of 08, but still.... I wouldn't have minded making that kind of money!

    Good post.
