Tell Me How To Turn $5000 Cash into $5000/Month

If you had $5000 cash for online marketing how would you spend it to ensure yourself that you would be earning a consistent income of $5000/month within 6 months to a year?

Looking forward to your ideas!

Thank you!

But then again, i think everybody would!

My best bet would be to buy a website that got already traffic and some incom and then invest the rest wisely to reach the income you want.

Thank you all for the fast replies!

Chris I've already bought lots of WSO fairy dust over the years! Didn't work for me.

Watsonovedades PPC I believe is doable but can eat the cash in a hurry unless you're smarter than me.

JensSteyaert - I'm really considering doing this. Thank you kindly for the great idea.

I don't know a sure way to achieve that outcome. But the one thing I would make sure of, if examining the possibilities for trying to do it, would be to stack the deck in my favor rather than against myself by staying well away from any SEO-related or otherwise Google-dependent business models.

I would find products that can bank you around $100-$1,000 per sale. You are not going to earn $5000 with products that get you $10-$20 per sale. You could but you would need to generate a lot of sales.

    This is very important.

Then create your own website, build it as a squeeze page to collect emails, and then follow up with your subscribers about your products. Don't forget to give them a lot of free and valuable content.

For ads, I would start running paid ads on Google and Yahoo. Use their PPC platform.

Alexa - Thank you for your reply! I've been following your article marketing thread on OBI for the past few months. Is this something you would suggest instead of SEO and Google? If so do you think it would be better to create a website or product from scratch or promote affiliate products via squidoo, hubpages or popular article directories?

For anyone who has either the writing skills, or the outsourcing skills/desire, I would, yes. I think it makes for a good, solid, non-SEO-dependent business model. (I'm biased, obviously, because that's how I make a living!).

I think your own site, which you yourself own and control, is always safer and a better prospect.

There's no point in promoting products on article directories, because articles promoting anything are never going to be syndicated. (And they do you no good sitting unsyndicated in an article directory: for all the reasons given in this post, no article marketer wants his potential customer traffic to be coming from an article directory to his own site).

This is what article directories can offer you (but not if your articles promote anything other than the idea of "finding more on your own site"): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5068872

I urge you not to try to do affiliate promotions through "Web 2.0" sites like Squidoo, HubPages or Blogger. All you need to do, to see why really clearly, once and for all, is to read these two threads really carefully, clicking on all the links inside them and having a look through those as well - it's time-consuming but very worthwhile and you'll understand really clearly, from doing it, why this would be such a big mistake ...

I must admit, though, in the context of your original question here, that from when I started, it took me longer than 6 months to be making $5,000 per month securely, from it. But on the other hand, I had to spend under $100, not $5,000, to do it. (I had to work about 25+ hours per week, too!).

Just the money would never acheve that in legal business. On an investment forum you'd get a big healthy laugh on such a demand. Just think, if it were possible, you could have 10 million by the end of the year! It's 1200% of investment profit you are talking about, while in the real world 10-12% is already very good.
But, if you add your own restless work and study to it, plus allow some time, then it's a totally different picture of course.

It's possible to do on eBay with minimal risk, but you will need to reinvest your return a couple times until you have x amount invested in inventory. I don't want to really randomize numbers, but if you can build that 5k into 20k which would likely take 4-6 months o continual reinvesting in inventory, $5000 a month in recurring income is something that is reasonably achievable. At that point, I would push it as much as I could to $6200 so you can hire a part time employee $1000-$1200 a month to do some (most) of your hands on work.

What I would do is buy sites with a proven income and make my $5,000 back in the ten months. So buy a few sites earning $100 a month consistently for $1,000 each and make it back in ten months. Then do it again. Then eventually you will make $5,000 a month.

Just takes time like most good money making strategies. But you should start out with $5k earning $500 a month after buying one or a few sites.

This is the best answer I've seen here.

You would want to be testing on a small scale an then rolling
out on anything that tested well.

But you'd also need a product, or preferably a whole range of
related products and services in a product funnel that you
      could sell.

And for that you'd need good copy to sell it as well.

Just the copy might set you back $2,000 or so for each
sales letter and you'd want at least three so you just blew
      your initial budget.

You could work up to it of course.

Realistically to be making $5,000 a month you've probably
want to be selling largely information and you'd need a
      substantial product funnel something like:

      # A $20 product
      # A $100 product
      # A $500 product
      # A $1,000 to $5,000 seminar, coaching or mentoring deal.

Since you don't personally have the expertise for the last
one or probably the expertise to create the products either
you may want to consider doing a joint venture with someone
who is capable of doing all these.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

You are certainly correct there, with $5,000.00 to invest, you could build a huge list. If you had a really good game plan, you could really use that list to make a decent amount of money.

There's no magic formula in life. If it was me and I only had 5k I'd be looking for a day job. If I had a day job and only 5 k then I'd do house flipping for a few years until I've built up a few hundred k. But I know how to do that, you might not so that' easy for me to say right. But if you buy a house with the 5 k you got a lot of options there. Tons! For one you can live in it, rent out some rooms, and try and flip it. But again, it's not exciting internet stuff. If you have 5k save it. That's not a lot to work with. Just find ways to build sites for free. And get everything you need done online for free or dirt cheap. Like fiverr cheap. And do a lot of research, pray and cross your fingers.

It takes time and effort to build up to $5000 a month and even then you are sort of at the mercy of Google unless you have a lot of traffic coming from different sources.

If you can build a list and communicate well with it, you probably can generate some sales. But be aware not to put all your eggs in the list basket since you will need to get people to open the emails, presell them and then a small percentage of that may convert. I know its a list your to 'own' but there are strong indications (from all that I've read) email promotion doesn't work as well as it use to a few years back.

create product (or pay someone to do it for you) - create website (or pay someone to do it for you) - drive traffic - capture leads - track and split test for higher conversions

    Build 2 lists - 1. leads - 2. buyers

Try to turn leads into buyers.

Create new product closely related to 1st product and sell it to your buyers.

WOW! Thank you everyone for taking the time to share your suggestions.

Perhaps I should explain my question/intent a bit more. This is certainly not a do or die situation. My wife and I are both retired from the military and get by on our pensions. We do not need a day job! We are simply looking to supplement our current income.

My wife will be receiving a one time good chunk of change within the next several weeks. Rather than blow it all on nice to have items we decided to donate some and invest some to create two or three additional streams of income that will be around for years to come (for our son - I won't go there - its another sob story!). We are not interested in MLM or offline marketing at this time.

We certainly do not HAVE to be making $5000/month in one year. However from reading the forums it seems there are lots of people making this kind of income quite quickly and I highly doubt very many of them had $5000 to start. We both have lots of time to do whatever WORK is required. Our goal is $5000/month after one year but we would be content with $1000 or $2000/month after a year as long as we know we have the option to grow it further with more time and effort.

Many of you mentioned building a list. We definitely know how important this is and it will be part of our plan but we think the list should be built in conjunction with an authority website we either buy or create from scratch. We are leaning towards no more than 2 or 3 websites. (At least one each for us to focus on) We're just struggling with what type of websites? Services? Our Own Products? Affiliate Products? Adsense??

Alexa - Thank you very kindly for the "squidoo" links. You have probably saved me several wasted hours of building lenses for the affiliate income. I believe at some point in the future we may use squidoo for traffic generation. Also you said you built your income to $5000 per month beginning with only $100. Would you care to share how long it took you to achieve $5000/month consistently? Do I dare ask what methods you started out with?? We have a lot more than 25 hours per week to achieve our goal.

Silas Hart - I like ebay. I currently have an ebay store that does okay. Part of the $5000 will most likely be used to create a website selling the same items we sell on ebay. This site can probably be scaled to a few thousand dollars per month after a few years.

Karlmay - Thank you for the kind words!

We understand there are unlimited possibilities and no magicial answers. We're just trying to establish some ideas of which methods would offer the best and safest return on the money spent. We do not want to turn the $5000 into Fairy Dust!!! (No More WSO's!!)

      Thank you all very kindly!

No, I don't mind (I don't give current incomes/list sizes etc. but I've already said this part and am only repeating information on the board anyway, from long ago). I had a slow and bad and mistake-packed start and earned almost nothing for about 3-4 months. Then I had a Big Strategic Rethink and two months later I was up to about $3,500, and after only another couple of months after that was up to about $5,000 in a month. About 8 months. I started off with writing skills and I was genuinely very lucky that my "rethink" after 3-4 months worked out so well, because I didn't, even at that time, have such a clear picture of what I was doing wrong.

Originally Posted by prettyplanes View Post

I'm too embarrassed to repeat it all in detail. Apart from writing reasonably good articles (which I think I always did, right from the start) I did just about everything wrong that you can possibly do wrong. I tried to use article directories for their own traffic and their own backlinks (that didn't work, even as long ago as 2008!). I did mass submission and outsourced backlink-building (that had very limited value even years before the recent Google updates!). I promoted ClickBank products with high gravities. I promoted ClickBank products with a vendor's opt-in on their sales pages. I didn't even build a list in each niche I tried. I imagined that "page ranks" were significant (it wasn't true even back in 2008/9!). I thought of traffic in terms of "people coming to my site from search engines". With hindsight, I was simply determined not to earn anything! "The second time around", after a few months and some good advice, I did what I still do now, which "suddenly worked" (as indeed it would have done the first time if I hadn't first listened to all the urban myths which are still being repeated now!). All described here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5721774

It took me a while even to have the common sense to understand what article marketing is. In spite of the panoply of glaringly obvious evidence to the contrary, all around us, in niche after niche, then just as now, I started out believing that high-quality, relevant sites probably didn't syndicate previously published articles but required "unique content".

It almost goes without saying, but excellent market research first. And, I think it helps to go into markets you know something about already, have a passion for, and/or already have a hobby.

Then, especially if it's in information marketing, pay close attention to the thought leaders/product creators in your chosen niche(s) and get as early notice as possible to their product launches so you can presell/sell their stuff as well as your own to your responsive lists.

And/or (and I'm not in these markets) 99 cent kindle fiction books/children's books and perhaps non-fiction are supposed to be doing well, but one book probably would not be consistent income. Possibly ghost written.

I'm not in the market here as well, but physical goods or software/website hosting affiliate marketing via your own store and it's Ebay or Amazon face. Build lists and non-search engine dependent traffic sources here as well.

PS - affiliate marketing AND your own stuff, keep your eyes on this forum for deals on services you need to hire out, try to hire copywriting cubs/up and coming writers if needed for the project and budget.

I would like to point out that if you are expecting 100% returns or regular dividends or returns as high as you invested amount, I guess that's expecting too much. What's very important is that if somebody is claiming to do that. Be careful, there are reasons then to be skeptical about. Earning money is a hard thing to do. If getting retunrs is that easy, everybody would be watching TV at home and not working. Investment and returns must be feasible and realistic.

Don't knock Google or SEO. Google brings in high converting traffic, albeit it can flactuate. For my store, search traffic converts better than paid traffic. Google's traffic has allowed me to earn 10s of thousands of dollars in total on my content sites since I got into webmastering some 7 years back. And that despite being incapacitated for 3 of those 7 years (with a freak illness). If it were not for those 3 years I might have earned twice or even three times as much, I reckon.

Build proper websites full of useful content and Google will remain your friend. When I first started out, my sites were pretty useless. All I was interested in was to get those adsense clicks, then I realized this wasn't a business model that would last long into the future because Google was persistently taking action against non-quality sites. I therefore changed my strategy and got rid of half of my sites so I can focus on fewer but greater quality sites.

However, I also realize the importance of not being overly reliant on Google,. I am therefore branching out into other forms of promotions. My main 3 properties all have 15 to 20% non google traffic but I am aiming for 50%.

I have noticed that Google traffic is way better than social media. They stay longer, they are more likely to buy, etc.

Like a lot of the people here already mentioned, I would create a product:

    1. Outsource product creation - make sure you get a good teaser product (giveaway) and a full product that you can sell. The full product would have PDFs, videos, and audio; mindmaps; blueprints.

    2. Outsource the website creation - create a kick-ass website that looks awesome and have a generic sales page included; affiliate/JV pages; download pages; thank-you pages; OTO pages; other sales funnel pages (more upsells/downsells).

    3. Outsource copywriting - for the sales page. Have them also create an autoresponder series that will promote your paid product. Do something like 1-thanks, 2-make sure you could open the free product, 3-value, 4-value, 5-promotion, 6-value, etc. making sure you GIVE a lot to the customer and only promote here and there in the AR series.

    4. Use solo ads and media buys to promote the free product; build your list.

    5. Set up a high-end upgrade for the paid product buyers that will include coaching for a high price.

    That's what I would do.

I'd say invest it into some IM education. You can start with the 3 pillars of IM, that are (IMO):

    - SEO
    - Copywriting
    - E-mail marketing.

For the last two, I'd highly recommend you André Chaperon's Tiny Little Businesses and Auto Responder Madness. I'm one of their customers and I LOVE it!
