If you were new to IM and had $15,000 to invest...

What would you do with it? Basically, I've got a bit of doe I've been saving up for awhile and I am looking to get my feet in the door with IM. Obviously, there are cheaper alternatives to getting started, but if you had a lot of money to spend on getting started, knowing what you know now, where would you invest it?

I've been thinking of buying a website on Flippa that has not been monetized or had any SEO done. I would then buy a WSO for an SEO service to get my website some traffic and market click bank products, use adsense, amazon products, etc.

To summarize: You want to get into IM'ing, you have $15,000. What do you spend money on to get going...

Thanks

No doubt in my mind what so ever.

    Get a COACH/MENTOR!

It will save you a lot of money and also make you a lot of money.
There are a few good ones here

  • I agree, you'd get a coach/mentor!

Because if you just threw that 15k into every product/service, you'd get into a LOT of trouble.

I made that mistake - and got into a LOT of trouble. Never again.

I like using free products too much!

$15,000 is a lot of money. Save most of it. Find a proven/evergreen niche and then build a list and then promote affiliate products or your own. If you can find a mentor, that can explain all of that to you, then go for it. If not, just use the warrior forum search function and first learn about "finding a niche".

After you spend your time and learn that process. Next, you will need to learn how to build your email list. Again use the search function and see what you can find. Next, you need to learn, how to drive traffic to your squeeze page (this can cost you the most money).

Letting google deliver your traffic can be a guessing game and you cannot afford to do that. Invest into some traffic generation methods (ppc, solo ads, banner buys, free wsos). After you have build your list, then either join clickbank and start promoting products or create your own products.

There are plenty of threads on this forum that will help you as well. Again, use the search function and look for "product creation". In my opinion, at most, you could spend $1,000 to maybe 2 for driving traffic to your squeezepage. You do not need, to burn through that 15ks.

    Good luck!

here's how I think others should look at this...

Let's think about an established marketer, ie - "money to get started" is not really an issue for them.

If they wanted to expand, etc, what would/do they do?

Most likely, do the same market research as anyone else - find a market, see if they can tap into it, etc.. Then they would probably start building a list and a product.

How would having the extra money help them?

    1) Maybe with some tools for market research (keyword samurai sort of stuff)..
    2) They'd have money to test various ppc, paid traffic techniques.
    3) And once they had their funnel sorted out and traffic converting, they'd have still have enough money on hand to scale up the traffic quickly.

That's just a very basic and crude framework, but it get's my point/approach across I think.

    just my 2 cents..

as you can tell, I am not a heavy "crank out tons of content" type of marketer

While getting a coach and a mentor is a great idea and can greatly help you, I'd be very careful about who you choose.

I would recommend looking into some mastermind groups and get access to many people rather than just one. A lot of mastermind groups can cost $100/month, but the amount of money you will make just from having access to JV partners will easily make that back.

As for the $15k, look at using some of it to create your own info product, and then have people in your mastermind group help you promote it. Build up your list and then promote other people's products from your mastermind group and you will start to see the money roll in!

I cannot even express enough how this is the total wrong mindset. To get traffic and "market some clickbank products" you don't need $15k. In fact, you can do this with change

That being said, I would buy a really good, promising site from flippa, possibly.

Or....commission a number of products (software, ebooks/courses, etc.) plus the sites for it...and then market them.

Internet marketing information is freely available across the Internet, if you want to learn about all kinds of tactics, its only a search away ... First of all I would join "The War Room" for $40 and go through the mountain of information and content there.

Secondly, I would research topics based on your own interests, hobbies, experience because you will be able to keep it updated. Then go forth and find a need and fill it. This can only happen if you research your market yourself, because hiring in others will not have the motivation or eye that you have. However, having a mentor to talk things over with can also help ... especially one that is at least somewhat successful in Internet marketing and in the field of interest you choose.

I will tell you a little story about how I stumbled upon my first highly successful Internet business, it was my first joint venture that generated over $630,000 in 6 years. I started researching in 1996. I created small products and reports I would sell via newsgroups and classified ads online, everything I used was free. I made a reasonably healthy profit. But, it wasn't until I focused on a certain interest in 1997 that my first JV was formed and we had a huge success. A few swaps, a few deals and we had the content to create our first membership site and we piled on the benefits so thick and had a price point so keen, that even the layman had trouble turning away. From that JV we made over $630k in 6 years.

What I am saying is spend your time researching your area of interest ... hobbies, work experience you will ultimately come up with opportunities where gaps in the market could do with products and services and then throw everything and the kitchen sink at the product to make it the best it could possibly be, if it is a membership site make sure that all the bases are covered and plentiful ... give the customer everything they expect and much, much more. Have different price points we had a monthly, quarterly, 6 months, 12 months and lifetime unlimited membership package (the most popular was the lifetime unlimited package at $299)...

For example, I wanted an automated piece of software that would allow me to edit audio, convert, add pictures, cut down to less than 15 minutes per segment and upload to YouTube and have it multi-threaded so I could start with multiple audio recordings so I could upload multiple playlists automatically overnight. This would allow me to offer many independent talk radio hosts the opportunity to quickly upload their show archives to YouTube. A simple idea that is needed by a niche market and that can generate a healthy revenue (this product is currently under development).

Research is the most important thing to do, if you do not spend time researching you will fail to generate income. The second thing is when you have a product that you bring in a joint venture partner who knows Internet marketing and can promote your product or service to a wider targeted audience. If that joint venture partner can add bonus products that would clinch the deal for customers to buy your products (over deliver) ... then from that point of success you can spend money on testing pay-per-click. Back in 1998-99 I used to spend $1,000 a month merely on pay per click for the membership site and I would buy top 5 listings on all search engines I could possibly advertise on. I would also buy top placed listings in regular e-zines too. The membership site we had was consistently within the top 75,000-100,000 websites in Alexa. Of course the best way to increase revenue is by affiliate program and get your customers/members to promote your product for a commission and basically its free money...

    Regards...

    James...

Knowing what I know now about internet marketing, this is what I would do. A little step by step.

Get my own domain name is the home business niche.

Then when I have that, pay for hosting.

Then I would go to Getresponse or Aweber for auto-responders and get my own account.

Register with a 2 ties or network marketing company online where I can earn both residual and leveraged income. Join it and pay the full membership. Make sure that they pay high commissions and there is potential to grow very fast. Knowing what I know right now, I would not even look at regular affiliate programs because they pay you once and that's it.

Then I would go to my auto-responder and fill it with messages that sell the benefits of that program.

Make sure that my leads come in every day and that I am consistent with that. I would never stop advertising.

I would use pay per click ads, I would upload videos to YouTube that talk about making money online and home business, write articles, use solo ads, forum marketing, and just keep at it till I get new people on my team every week and earn enough money.

Because you have $15k in the bank I'm guessing like a lot of people we see posting here you're not DESPERATE to make money because you're about to be made homeless / jobless / run out of cash etc so take some time to LEARN internet marketing. Learn how to do keyword research, find niches, build sites, do basic SEO, rank websites, generate traffic, make sales, build a relationship, convert your traffic and so on. Just set up a few mini projects, nothing too ambitious to test the waters. Once you get a feel for things and know what you're doing use the money to start on a bigger project.

    Start building you a list...

If you are a newbie in the industry and you are serious about making money but you don't know the game all that much than start off with basic list building....

$15k is a NICE amount to start with and when I was getting into the business 7 years ago I wish I had that luxury.. But with that said $15k can get you a lot cause you have test money to play with a few things.

Just make sure that you dont put all your eggs in 1 basket until you see something that is working.

Start out with about 2k and when you see that something is working and you just need to scale it than go grab that 13k!

There are a ton of opportunities in this market!!

    BTW... WELCOME TO OUR WORLD!!

With $15k the obvious thing to do is to buy a business that already
has an income and that you can run without too much trouble.

Buying websites is a very tricky business though.

If it doesn't already have substantial traffic and sales you should
forget it (there are plenty of scams involving "turnkey" websites that
are a complete heap of garbage that will never make a cent.

Outside of that you really don't need to spend that much money to
    get started.

In fact anything beyond about $1,000 is probably a waste of money
for training when you're starting out and even that much is probably
    unneccessary.

    Kindest regards,

Why would you buy a website at flippa which dont have any seo done and don't have traffic?

Because you can build a site like that your self, plus If you don't have any experience in online marketing then you are not good to buy websites do seo and promote clickbank products.

Because it is not that simple to do. You will need a lot of hard work, all you can do now is to search online and increase your reading habit, once you think you're ready to invest then you can invest.

Otherwise all you can do for now is hire a coach.

Right up front, this is a terrible idea.

The whole point to buying websites is that they have some proof of making money. You need to know they were created around a buying niche.

      Think about it this way:

You decide you want to buy a business on main street. There is a dry cleaners for sale, and there is a comic book store. The comic book store is NEW, and has inventory and looks nice, but has not been opened for business.

The dry cleaners on the other hand has been there for about 10 years, and is making money. It has a list of regular clients.

Which business do you think is the wiser one? Do you even know if anyone is buying comic books in this particular town?

If you were new to IM and had $15,000 to invest...
      1. Decide on a business. What do you want to be selling?

      2. Create a business plan. Even online businesses can benefit from these. Don't expect some SEO company to tell you where your traffic is going to come from. YOU should know where this traffic is. Your job is then to tell the SEO company where to put their efforts.

Figure out where that money is going to need to go. Figure out how much of it you need to spend to get going.

      3. Set up like an official business. Get a trade name, business checking account, etc.

If you are going to buy a ready made site at any point in the game, you should either learn how to make subtle changes to it yourself or you are going to want to employ someone who can do this for you.

Static sites don't typically work out of the box. You'll need to do testing and tracking, and in order to test things you will need to change things as they appear on the site.

Personally, I've done things the hard way. If someone magically appeared to me today and said we could go back in time and hand myself some money - but I still won't "know" anything about how to manage the site I would say don't bother giving me that start up cash. It likely would have been spent on some serious partying - and I wouldn't have been any wiser in the end.

Have an idea of what is going where. Draw up a plan, and don't rush into blowing it all in a week - cause it can go that fast.

Cail... $15k free money to invest, will bring you a recurring sum to bank very easily

    1) Do lots and lots of reading and research on the WF, pinpoint failure, highlight success!
    2) Buy 4 very well know IM products for your IMtoolbox, these after training will dominate your day to night IM routine.
    3) Get a mentor/teacher/guru > someone who is in the field you want to EARN from.
    4) Keep 1/3 of your investment as BACKUP, ready if what you decide on falls flat on its touche!
    5) Do some more research

A number of our very, very early students, who have taken the time and effort to practice what we preach to them, have turned much smaller amounts $1k, into 5 figures over a static, planned period of time.

We also have members, who have taken 6 figure sums and made them into 7 figure sums, again all over a planned period... so take your time and choose what you are going to change your life with wisely )

The question is quite vague really. It all depends what direction you want your business to go in.

For example, if you wanted to start an e-commerce store. You could easily spend $15,000 on stock, and in that case, $15,000 isn't a big investment.

If you wanted to launch digital products it'd depend on if you were creating your own 'training' courses or software business etc.

For software you could spend some of that on having software created, professionally written sales copy, professionally designed sales page, launch manager etc.

If you were going to create video training type courses you could spend the money on a good computer, slr camera (to record camera facing videos), a top quality microphone, software, perhaps some nice artwork or pot plants for the background (perception is huge) as well as outsourcing the sales copy etc.

There really is no 'black and white' answer.

It depends on you. What business appeals to you? How hands on are you? What is your ultimate goal?

If this thread is serious and you really have that sort of money at your disposal I would start to think about where you want to be this time next year, in 5 years time, and perhaps even longer... Then people can probably give you more suitable advice.

      Best of luck,

15k is very much money and you won't need that much to get started. I would use it to outsource a High quality product and get a squeeze page set up. Maybe I would outsource the setup of a membership website too. After that's done stick with it, build a readership and a list. You can easily scale this model up later.

That's a very general question, so I'll focus on what I know: SEO.

If I had a time machine and could go back to 2010, this is what I would buy (some of it I did buy back then, some was not for sale yet...but you know what I mean):

      Ranktracker ($120)
      Bulletproof Windows server ($180-$300 p/mo)
      Xrumer ($650 +$10p/mo)
Xrumer training from Kensai at TheSEOBay ($190)
      GSA-SER ($97)
      Scrapebox ($57)
      Ubot for task automation ($490 + $5p/mo)
10 cheap hosting accounts, or 2-3 reseller accounts ($80 p/mo)
Content Foundry for linkspam content ($150)
Money for domains (testing and money sites) ($500)
Money for buying high PR links once you know how to link spam ($1k)
Money for buying custom written content for money sites ($500)

Help and guidance is free if you go to the right places.
Keyword research is free, I've spent a ton of money on this but I use free tools now.

That's all you need to kick serious ass, in 6 months you'll be a Pro if you invest the time and it will total out at just over $6k

I would invest in good people. I would head over to a place like Odesk and find a competent programmer and a competent designer. Then I would find a site or business that I wanted to use as model and strive to do something better. I would probably not buy something that was pre-made for me, especially not at the $15,000 level. I would make it myself so I had full control of the business.

And I am spending about that much on a new product this year.

Here's my $17 WSO for making it big online (today it's free!)

Step 1) Get a good understanding of traffic + conversion. These are the two main factors you need to know.

Step 2) Look at a few CPA campaign methods & case studies. There's plenty of them readily available online or you can join a paid forum and get campaigns.

Step 3) Drive traffic to CPA offers.

    Step 4) Profit.

Put $5000,00 for rent and food. It should cover at least 1 month. Use that month to get your hands dirty and learn the basics.

Buy some books (+ - $300) such as Outsmarting Google (external SEO) , Search engine optimization secrets (Cover most of internal site structure on an seo standpoint), learn a CMS such as Wordpress, the basics of CSS and HTML (I'd take a $25/month Lynda.com account for it), open an account to outsource what you don't know (odesk) and budget about $500,00 to spend there, keep $200 for some fiver gigs, buy 4-5 domains for testing purposes ($60) , buy a basic resseller account for 1 year ($80). Take $500,00 for Adwords testing. Buy Scrapebox ($70) (good for keyword search and to find competitors), and Advanced web Ranking ($400).

I would not go spend hard earned money on Flippa if I was new at IM. Go on Deleted Domain Names and find some dropped domains that could be just as great as what you would get on Flippa for free (appart from the dns registration).

Don't waste too much time writing on forums unless you are chasing the "get rich quick crowd" who believe they can become millionaire by using some software on auto-pilot: that crowd is huge, but you will find a lot of competitors. Forums are good to read, but with a grain of salt. Take the time to make a plan on how you are going to monetize. Mentors might be ok if you are ready to blow money off the window which I don't think is your case with $15K. I don't think anyone that is really successful will accept to mentor at least then $150 per hour, and it will be almost impossible for a newbie to know who is right and who isn't.

Personnally, I wouldn't mentor anyone on duplicating my business. I already make over 6 digits anually. I tap into niches that nobody else care about, such as very specific industrial stuff that generates hundreds or thousands of dollars for each sales, and to be honest, I'm pretty bad at building a website myself or even at writing good content, I don't have any affiliate account and I don't make any adsense revenues. I pay people to program and design for me, and I pay people to proofread my content. I even pay people to photoshop for me. I'm good at finding untapped niches, doing my own keyword research (using Scrapebox and text analysis), analysing web data, doing split test, raising quality score and Seo position, as well as microblogging.

When I find a niche, I take the phone and call the company owner. I don't sell SEO services, I sell sales. I can invest several hundreds or thousands of dollars on a single prospect before even calling them. When I call them, I know who their competitors are, how much sales they make, how much sales they should make, I show them their new website and let them know about most of my strategy. I lost a single customer in my life, that customer was not sufficiently involved in her own business to let me do my work.

Some guys will tell you: don't invest in PPC, SEO is free. Following that advice, you will lose any leads that clicks on ads.

Others will say: don't invest in SEO, PPC is instantaneous. (You should do SEO just as much!, its another trend of traffic).

Others will say do or don't do social, but at the end, its all about how much it cost to generate a lead and how much it bring in sales. A blogger targetting DUI keywords might generate up to $100 per click through Adsense. A blogger partnering with a lawyer office and targetting DUI keywords might generate $2500 per sale. Take that $15,000,00 and trust nobody else than you to manage it.

I agree with you hammers SEO should be a priority, however, I don't know if reading older books and courses is the right way to go with the way the standards for SEO continue to change...

A lot of people go crazy optimizing their sites for keywords they're not even sure will convert. I say do PPC and banners ect. find your winning keywords dump the losers, and then SEO for the money makers.

Having a large budget to start with is a luxury most getting into this feild don't have, don't take it for granted and use it wisely...

Lastly, be careful, its a jungle out there... I wonder how many PM's you'll get just from stating you have 15k to invest..

15K could and should get you off to a good start, but spend wisely, find someone whose getting the results you want and expect, find out what they are doing .........there are some good guys around, but be careful..........I would suggest you go for high ticket sales, selling $50 clickbank products, is a long haul, unless you have a very large and responsive list

Aside from a domain, hosting and autoresponder, I wouldn't spend serious money until I developed a model that generated revenue ... even just a little revenue consistently.

THEN, with a proven model/offer/system, I'd invest big time in scaling and/or replicating.

Depending on the model, I'd invest a little into paid traffic early one to test.

I would test small with advertising, and if the conversions are good, roll out with a larger paid advertising campaign with your funds. If the conversions are bad, find another niche, and repeat the same thing.

Get a mentor without doubt they will direct you perfectly into the right niche and way to go about things.

Their experience will save you big money but pay for a good one even if it eats the budget up, don't get scared paying $5k for one, but do your home work and find one that suits.

Follow them on Facebook and social media, engage a little and see if you like their style before paying out.

To be perfectly blunt, this sounds like a terrible idea. Especially for a beginner, which I am assuming means "I don't know how to do SEO myself".

For starters, about 98% of websites sold on Flippa are scams, plain and simple. The majority of sellers just make BS websites that they know will never be successful, often packed with auto-spun or non-unique content, or even unique content that is just garbage because they paid someone in a foreign country $2 per 500 words to write it.

Secondly, if you don't know how to do SEO yourself, I wouldn't recommend hiring an SEO service. And if you did know SEO yourself, I would recommend outsourcing it to a freelancer instead of an established service (ie hire someone cheap for $10/hour or less and tell them exactly how to build links for you during their work hours). The reason for this is because many SEO services are over-hyped, over-priced, and under-deliver. Also, SEO often doesn't take effect until months after you have done it, if it takes effect at all. And by that time, the SEO service has already taken $100's or $1000's of your money often with no guarantee of results.

In short, I would tell you to find a good SEO educational course, but don't overpay for it. A good "from the ground up" education can be gotten from a service called Site Built It which also includes a hosting platform and other tools, but I would recommend buying their service solely for the education of it alone (it will teach you how to build an authority niche website, and teach you the fundamentals of good SEO). I believe their entire course is still only $300 which is incredibly cheap for the value that it provides.

Setup a good amount of affiliate campaigns and see which ones convert. Don't waste your time with websites or anything complicated, just send the traffic and get the money!

You don't need lot of money in IM business. My good friend started IM without much cash.. He is doing very well after few months of hard works.. I suggest getting a mentor specializing in your IM niche of your interest. No every mentor is good in all aspects of IM.

I think the idea of buying WF banners is great.
