Looking for tips on building a niche forum

I've been doing some research but I'm fairly new to the world of forums. I want to add an insurance forum to my site but not sure what the dos and don'ts are...any tips from people that have started their own? I already have a plugin that seems pretty good...they say, "you build it they will come" but I'm not so sure of that

    You can go to DP and hire some freelancer to do 10 forum posts per day in the beginning. This way, you will get some traffic and search engine spiders will start to index some pages in the coming days.

    Your forum will need posts to live. The more relevant posts there are, the higher the chances that Google will find you... but that's for a far later time since SEO always takes a while to kick in.

    Also, since it's insurance, invite people or friends you know that would want to talk about such a topic.
