INTERNET MARKETING

A pretty basic WP question...

If I have WP installed on a domain name, I can make the domain name (URL) lead to that WP install (obviously).

Then on that blog, I can rename pages anything I want -- ex: domain.com/other

But merely renaming the page does not automatically make that sub url lead to that renamed page -- does it?

If the plugin I'm using to create the pages claims not to need ftp, how can that be?

Any tutorials out there to clear this up for me?

Yes, by renaming the page it does automatically redirect to the existing page/post. Wordpress uses databases to store pages and posts. It assigns a number to each one and the slug (sub url) redirects to the corresponding page/post. It works differently than a regular html site.

You're question is a little bit confusing but I'm wondering
if you're talking about 'permalinks' maybe?

Have you enabled them in you settings?

If that wasn't what you were asking could you please
try to explain the issue a little more and I'm sure
myself or somebody else on the forum would be
glad to help.

you might rename it but at the end, WP points to the page id. each post, website and so on , has a unique id. WP points to that and not to the text

i am bit confused with your question, but what i have understood is that , by renaming the page once its created the link remains the same , that you have to do by editing the link of it manually.

please try to explain more

Please check the configuration at yourdomainname/wp-admin/options-permalink.php click Custom Structure radio button and put /%postname%/ as the value, then "Save Changes". I think that's what you want to do

I do not exactly understand what you mean but using %postname% in the writing section to change the way WP renames URL is a starting point. It will automatically change the /+ part of the name to the title of the post.

Is the WordPress site not in the route directory but in a sub folder and you are redirecting the domain to that folder, is that what your saying?

Here's what I meant...

Say I install WP on my domain, example.com
That's where the main page of my site is. People can go to example.com, and they will land on my main page.

Now I create another page on my site, and *I* name it example.com/page2

Just because *I* name that page example.com/page2 does that mean anyone typing in that page name into their browser would land on that page?

Isn't there more to it than that? Does *me* merely naming it that "make it so?"

  You can edit the permalink. As soon as you publish/update the post, you'll see a "View Post" link appear. Right under that you can set the link to whatever you want.
